My BIL is a federal ICE agent. He absolutely says stay away, he said its a matter of time and you don't want to be there when that time happens. He would have gone himself in the past but he said Intel they are getting isn't good. Travel at your own risk but yall are all grown ups.

It can be dangerous at times for sure. I have a good buddy who's family has a big tree service, they're from interior Mexico. They have a farm in the mountains growing mostly corn. They "take care" of the local people giving them food, jobs etc. That allows them to "keep" the farm. Crazy stuff

A big difference in going to a fish camp and going to the beach tourist traps

I’ve been advised similar by a family friend. Basically he said stay away from the border at all costs. Flying into tourist destinations and cruises are still considered low risk.

Cancun wouldn't be considered low risk. You can google all the shootings you want

Wife and I have been to Mexican resorts probably 10 times over the years but we are done. Never plan to set foot in Mexico again. I would love to fish one of their bass lakes but not going to happen.

These Mexico posts are always the same. The State Dept put out a travel advisory about the danger increasing and warning people not to travel. Then people posts how inaccurate the warning is because they have traveled there and nothing bad has ever happened then the more humorous statements on how it is safer than the lakes in the US.
I always think, I had never had an accident until I did. I had never gotten a ticket until I did. Because you have gone before without incident will never mean that if you keep pushing your luck, nothing will ever happen. I have never seen the DPS patrol American lakes with a gun boat with M60 machine guns mounted except on the border. Until they no longer need to patrol to protect against the cartel, I won't gamble with my life to go there just to fish

Wisdom, been to Mexico lakes several times while it is an experience and both numbers and quality were caught I lost interest in it opting to just stick to trying to get better on our lakes up here. To me the lakes down there are like pushing the easy button or getting on a private lake with no pressure.

As for the resorts , been to Cancun one time to Hard Rock Riviera Maya while it was a neat place I think Florida suits me better the food was awful down in Mexico as well.

Guys it's bad, don't ever go down there. There are guys on every corner looking to grab you and shoot up your car with AKs.

Seriously though,

I will never try to convince people that Mexico or anywhere outside of the US that it is safe. As far as I'm concerned they can fish our overcrowded and over pressured lakes and the rest of us can enjoy some great fishing elsewhere.

There are a couple of guys from S Texas that can personally tell you about a kidnapping (them) that took place at a cafe after fishing Sugar Lake also. I don't remember the year but it must have been 2010 or so. I got nervous fishing the Mexico side of Falcon or Amistad after that.

Lol, ok…

I can tell you about 3 missing people from Bandera County over the last several months, 2 have been found dead.

Used to trailer all the way from Amarillo to Bachara.
The last year we went everyone except our group had trouble. I believe the only reason we didn't-- there were so many of us.
Not a single person out of that whole bunch has ever returned.
As for me I'm a lot more nervous at Falcon than Amistad but I still keep my head on a swivel.
