If you ever do? Or some may not ever move out deep to fish.

As the fall approaches, is it day length, water temp, shad migration, or something else that makes you move?

Do you go dirt shallow? Or do you try more mid depth?

Very lake dependent, and a lot depends on water clarity.
Deep, clearer lakes I see more shad and bass activity deep until after the lake turnover (typically happens first two weeks of October). Then, after the turnover, they move into the creeks and then to the back of the creeks around Thanksgiving.

More stained lakes, the baitfish and bass are already moving shallower (as the day light hours are decreasing)

You can always catch fish in 1-8 feet of water, unless it's frozen solid.

There has been a shallow bite all year.

If I never caught another bass in less than 10’ again I’d be a happy man, I hate shallow bank beating. Unfortunately, bass have a different opinion of where they like to live. bang

Most lakes you can catch fish shallow all year, the biggest bags have been coming from deeper water…I don’t care what the lake is. Big fat ones don’t like to sweat, they like the water to be mid-70’s to low 80’s. If surface temps are mid 80’s and higher, the fish in those temps are gonna be the smaller fish. Of course these observations are from the 10 or so lakes I’ve been fishing this summer.

Hell…most of the lakes I’ve been fishing the shallow spots are being mowed by lawn mowers.

Caught a 7 lb bass at Big Sam last weekend in 3 ft of water. Fished a lot of points but no fish. Caught several junk fishing.

You'd be surprised at how many lakes have big fish in 2-3ft of water in the hottest part of the day. The key is what they are after. They aren't up there for no reason...
