Glad everything has worked out. By the way, how old are these kids?

God Bless,

Plenty old enough to be responsible for their actions. I have to agree it's time to bring the hammer down on em. Glad to hear they have been caught.

It's not just "the kid"........there were three occupants in that boat..........one is responsible for the collision, but all three left a family to die.........any one of 'em could have called for help even if the a$$401e driver wouldn't stop. Their parents should all be ashamed of having raised such monsters.

Good job protecting your family, Paul, and thanks for keeping us updated.

I am glad it is working out for ya, But I have ask some thing that I have not seen yet.
How are your kids doing now? Are they ok (I hope to god they are) or are they having a hard time with it?

My hopes and prayers are with you and your family.
Go get them and make them pay for what they did.

The only thing he was "freakin' out about was thinking up the lie he had to tell Daddy about how he wrecked the boat.

No jail time. I would hope for a 10 year probation on driving any watercraft, full restitution, and a minimum of 1000 hours of solid community service. I hope his two buddies get 500 hours of community service for not promptly reporting the accident.

As a father of a 22 year old, I still don't understand the mentality of young people that you don't "rat out" your friends, when they do something like this. This is why I have never let him borrow my boat. I could see him doing the same thing.

That is great news. They should have multiple charges one of which is leaving the scene of an accident. It maybe enhanced since it was an injury accident.

This story does serve as a great example of why kids and adults should wear their PFD's. Things can happen, have happened, when you have no chance to grab something.

I do hope your chidren will not be traumatized by this too much. It is scary enough for it to happen to an adult but even more so when you are a child.

I am so glad that it is working out for you. And that justice will compensate you for everything. The only thing I hope comes around is that the kids recover and don't fear the water.

I'm not sure why you addressed this to me - maybe oversight? My posts on this subject have taken a similar position as yours. Hopefully you randomly clicked "reply" and it just happened to be mine.

Just want to set the record straight.

Good luck with getting this fully resolved. I am glad your family was not physically hurt and I wish you the best with getting the children over the emotional baggage something like this causes. There are some good life lessons to be learned with this incident.

I thought I was a bad kid back in the day, these clowns make me look like an Eagle Scout.

Absolutely no moral compass whatsoever, leaving a scene of an accident on a lake?

Got to be one of the worst things ever.

It is good to hear their are still good people out there. We hear so much negative it is easy to get discouraged. I am glad these young men were caught and that the owner of the boat requested his son be charged.

I'm glad to see the perpetrators caught.
I'm glad you and your children are ok.
I'm proud of the involvement of our community in helping spread the word that got the boat spotted.
I'm encouraged by the wake boarders community getting involved sharing information with our community and the fact that we got to let them know we could care less if they go 50 ft. in the air.....just do it away from us.
I'm REALLY pound of what the father of the young man appears to be doing. It's exactly what my mother would have done if I had done something like that and more parents should follow that lead. It makes children grow into better adults.
You have to wonder though, how do you not know your boat has been damaged? I'd recognize any damage on mine the second I looked at my boat. Does anyone know if this boat was stored somewhere the father might not see it for extended periods of time? And who took the boat to the shop?
