I went with this set-up this weekend, not this lake. My hook was not that small, #4. What was interesting, I noticed many times, normally the bigger fish, they were going after the split shot! I ended up using 1/16oz jigs, it worked better I think. I was gonna go with 2 jigs, 1/32 oz at bottom and 1/16oz or 1/8oz jig at top, but did not want to mess with 2 jigs.

I also been using Berkley Gulp! Minnow Black Shad, 1", they sell them at Academy.. Those are good, but they are just expensive ($4 for 10), and very delicate, not nearly as durable as the bobby garland.

if it makes you guys feel any better I've ran one single crappie trip this year. I'm not as mad at them as I was six years ago. On top of that they are getting tougher to catch. I agree that numbers are down. I'm also having to share the brush piles I put out because electronics are much better than they used to be. white bass pay the bills if you know what I mean. PGS is not contributing to much of the current crappie problem.

Every summer I take my talents to Raybob! I haven’t hardly touched them, but I know an old timer who fishes Lew every day. He catches “his limit” every day on Lew. Disclaimer that old timer is my grandpa, and “his limit” is 4! Lol

It's the guide. Most boaters go fishing 1-2 times a month and rarely hit their limit (normally ~0-5/person, 10+ if lucky) while those guides can easily hit 25 / person. So if u do the math you know why the fish population decreasing every year. The more guides on the lake the less fish you catch.

I don't believe that for a second. I mentioned above that most guides target other species on Lew. Dak said he goes up to Ray Roberts for crappie during the summer because lew is so tough. Hard to say guides are the problem when most don't even target crappie.

I saw a guide (don't want to name him here) filleting like 70-80 crappies for his 4 customers 3 weeks ago. It's gonna take a few years to replace those fish. I wish TPWD set a new limit like 10 fish/person/day to keep up with the population.

My opinion after talking with pond management guys about stocking a large pond couple acres with crappie and bass was told absolutely not to put crappie in it that they would take it over no possible way you could hurt the population with rod and reel in a lake the size of Lewisville

I trust the fish biologist to know what is going on in our lakes. Most lakes go thru cycles and Lewisville may be on a down cycle. I've seen some mention Hubbard. I see very few crappie fisherman on Hubbard. It has been this way for years; I seldom see any boats at all on the west end of the lake. The vast majority of the crappie fisherman only fish the bridge pilings. I have mad respect for anyone who can catch a limit on Hubbard.

every lake has a 3 year cycle ! Bass or Crappie.
