Any racing series that tries to slow their vehicles down loses my interest quickly. I would submit restrictor plate racing in NASCAR. What a lame idea that created boring, dangerous racing. Let them go fast and then improve the facilities to handle it.

I lost interest in some of the local drag strips when many went to 1/8 mile. I’m sure there were reasons, but I really never got it. Texas motorcross tracks were exciting in the 60s and 70s. 1/8th mile is like watching paint dry The cars were getting too fast for 1/4 mile. Paint can’t dry in 3 seconds @ 250 mph. That's the point!!! Extend the shut down area. Not shorten the track. Jesus. Top fueler top speed for 1/8 is 299. Thats crazy fast. I used to watch Garlits and Force on TV but never had a desire to watch in person. A friend of mine used to live just south of the Kennedale track but I never went in. My only big race was a Can Am event in Vegas when the Chapparal and Jim Hall were racing. That was long ago.

Spent many a Friday night at the Kennedale dirt track. Grew up with a guy named Jay Bransom who's dad owns the track now. Now his kids are winning trophies now.

Thunder Mountain between Jacksonville and Rusk was not your average dirt track. Parking lot and pits were on a ridge with the track tucked down in a wide draw. Track was barely flat in the middle of front and back stretch and had to be 15 feet higher at the bottom of the middle between 1&2 and 3&4. Inside line of track looked like a Pringle chip.

Seems like that was what got it changed.

Anyone remember the Drag Strip at Caddo Mills. Big time races there in the late 1950s! It's open again. I live about 5 miles from there. Races most Friday's, Saturday's and some Sunday's. Also some holidays.

We had a dirt track out between New Waverly & Willis. They have built a couple of rent only subdivisions really close to where the track was and now looks like they maybe getting ready to put some sort of housing development where the track was, probably the same type of rental subdivision.
