There is no need to throw a drop shot on spinning tackle unless you just like using it. It works just fine on a bait caster, so it is up to choose which you like best. I use a bait caster for finesse worms and trick worms. Daiwa reels. Sure there is. When your lure hits with water with a bait caster it will pendulum back towards you a spinning reel it will drop straight down with the bail open. Critical when you're trying to pinpoint structure or a ledge. Bass don't know which one I am using and I catch plenty of fish on a drop shot set up on a bait caster. I have enough experience with a bait caster that I can pinpoint structure or a ledge to fish, I know where I need to cast too and I have more control with a bait caster than I do with spinning gear. I guess if you can't cast accurately with a bait caster like yourself, then it might be better with spinning gear. I can see where using spinning gear would be better for you. Its not the best choice for everyone. Not sure what I ever did to piss you off whenever I respond to your post but nice polite edit. You did not make me mad, I just come across a little too harsh sometimes. I began with spinning tackle for drop shotting because that is what everyone was doing in the early days. I have more control with a bait caster so I switched to it. Its all about which one you like best for the drop shot. I am sorry about being too harsh with my statement, I really didn't mean to. Bad wording on my part.

No harm, no foul. I'll agree that with bait caster's accuracy is much better but for finesse and getting it to drop straight down I still prefer spinning.

I'm throwing the Dobyns 703c for drop shotting grass edges and cover as I like enough power to get them out of the grass. 15lb braid to 12lb leader.

I use spinning gear, 15 lb braid to a flouro leader 5-15 lbs depending on water clarity and smallmouth vs. largemouth. Light line doesn't work well with baitcasters. In addition, I find that with a baitcaster, if you don't use one of these hook/swivel combos you get line twist. You can go straight to the hook with a palomar knot with spinning gear and get no line twist. In clear water, particularly for smallmouth I find that I absolutely get more bites without the extra hardware on the hook.
