Help please.
I have a new carbon 7, didn't come with a transducer, that I want to run on the bow. I don't which transducer to use on the trolling motor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also, have a new carbon 9 for the console. I heard that I need a thru hull transducer as the 3 in 1 will not get bottom contact once on plane. Please advise.
Thx Rob. I have two Carbon units, so I can relay my experience. A properly installed 3-in-1 transducer most likely will not maintain bottom contact when you get on plane, so yes, you should plan on a "2D" transducer of some sort for the stern of the boat. If you want the standard chirp-capable shoot thru hull puck, the one that has the correct connector for Carbon is this one: PB-WBL Shoot-thru-hull transducer for Carbon 2DWhen using the puck in the bilge, be certain that for the console Carbon you manually set the temperature source as the 3-in-1 transducer. This will insure the unit doesn't somehow start giving you the temperature of your boat's bilge from the "puck". For the trolling motor, use this transducer for 2D and down-imaging: SKU: 000-10976-001 TM Transducer for Carbon It has the correct connector (7-pin) and will work with Carbon. Do NOT get the TM transducer that is blue in color; it has the 9 pin connector that works with newer models. It can be connected if you wanted to ($30 adapter cable as an extra item), but why spend more? You may notice a different model that "looks" the same offered cheaper (SKU: 000-13889-001) but be aware that one has only a 6 foot cable (since it's meant for the kayak crowd). There are 2 ways to go for mounting the TM transducer: 1) the plastic housing sold by Lowrance (that looks like a toy boat), or 2) bracket from Transducer Shield & Saver solution for this transducer on a TM. I like and have used the latter.

Hey Thanks Filliped-Out.
The setup suggested works perfect. We can called it user verified. The Carbon unit identified the 3in1 transducer for temp. So, lucky me.
Huge upgrade from my Elite 7 and 9.
Now, if I can just catch a fish.

I've installed my a.i. 3-in-1 transducer and plan on installing a 2d on the port side of the 3-in-1. The 2d will be about 3 inches to the left and 2 inches lower than the 3-in-1. Am I going to get interference from the 2d when I use sidescan?
Thanks.....Richard

If the boat is aluminum (or an old balsa core hull) he can't shoot through the hull, obviously. I STRONGLY agree with your encouragement to install a 2D "puck" transducer to shoot through the hull. "Interference" is usually implied to be electrical "noise" due the similar frequencies used by two or more transducers. In your case, the physical placement of the 2D transducer may create a blockage to be able to "see" (electronically) through the body of the 2D transducer. My bet is this will not work without some negative impact. If the boat is a fiberglass hull, put a 2D transducer in the bilge near the drain plug. If you can't avoid putting a 2D on the exterior transom, I'm thinking it needs to be further from the 3-in-1 to not risk a physical blockage. I've always avoided this, so can't say how far is enough...

I’m partially thinking that he can, but at the same time, I think it might keep pinging and cause interference. His boat is a center console, I don’t remember what brand though.

Ahhh, it's a 3-in-1, not a 2-in-1 (or at least he says it is). As such, it should be mounted where it will successfully read 2D on plane like the huge skimmer it is. When the boat slows the transom will settle and all frequencies should work.

I appreciate the feed back and will look into a shoot thru hull setup. I do have a center console and fish both fresh and salt. When in the salt I worry about damaging the 3-in-1 if / when I get too shallow. I want to be able to swing the 3-in-1 up and out of the way since I only need 2d / depth and would use the 2d skimmer as I've done prior to my recent upgrade. I originally planned on installing a 2-in-1 plus skimmer with the same thoughts in mind but I purchased the Carbon package which came with the 3-in-1. If the shoot thru hull has issues I may put the skimmer on the opposite side of the transom, hopefully in a position to avoid propeller turbulence.

So you already have the skimmer installed, makes more sense now. If it’s an older skimmer you would need an adapter from a 7-9 pin to work with the carbon. I think (I’m not an expert), you could maybe “stop sonar” on the 2d in the 3-1 ducer and then switch the 2d source on the carbon to the skimmer. Might work without interference that way. Worth a shot before moving stuff around.

If I had only been smart enough to do more research before the install. I thought I had to upgrade my skimmer to an HDI skimmer for the Carbon so I removed my old skimmer before I ran the cables for the 3-in-1 transducer and the Point-1 GPS puck. Only after researching which skimmers were compatible did I learn that my old HST skimmer would have worked. I saved about $375 by doing the install myself but like most of my DIY projects I learn from my numerous mistakes.

Anyone know how I can "stop sonar" on the Carbon for the 3-in-1 transducer? I've looked at the menus but don't know where this feature resides, if it's even possible.
Thanks..Richard

I have HDS units on console and bow. All NEMA connected. I have a 3-n-1 transducer on the transom and a 3-n-1 nosecone transducer on the Ghost. Do either of these transducers include temp sensing?
