I had the same issues of loosing lots of fish until I started using fluoro. I think with the single hook and more moderate rod you need a line with very little stretch to get a good hookup. I use the Evergreen jackhammer rod and a Daiwa Tatula 150.

Daiwa Tatula CT 6.3, Daiwa Tatula 7’ glass cranking M, 12lb suffix copolymer

I felt like It would be too bendy though?

Put some flourocarbon on there and you've got yourself a great set up IMO. Remember, you're using a reaction bait with no weed guard so you don't need to set the hook like a t-rig. The bass hook themselves most of the time.

Brett Hite is basically the God Father of the bladed jig. Watch his hookset at the 20 second mark. Thats how you do it. This is also the video I watched before switching over to a glass rod.

It's not the hook on the Jackhammer, unless you have bend the point.

Definitely a very good rod too. It's my favorite spinnerbait rod. If I wasn't using braid it would be my go to rod for Chatterbaits too.

Do you mean on the cranking rod? What size fluoro would you use? And will fluoro still be good for square bills?

Barn, I need a spinnerbait setup too. What line do you use on the head Turner for spinner baits?

I have one for spinnerbaits as well. That's all I throw them on. Outstanding rod.

I use the Alpha Angler ChatterBound rod and am very pleased with it. As far as fishing a chatterbait, I fish it similar to a swimbait. I think a sweeping motion after some load is all you need. No need to lay the wood. As far as jumps, personally when they break the water, I will pull away to try to lessen slack from head shakes and get them back in the water ASAP.

I usually have 3 jackhammers tied on at all time. Three different old junky rods. 2 with 65lb braid one with 20lb fluorocarbon. Hardly ever lose fish. Some of y'all just really overthink simple things

I use 15-20# Big Game for spinnerbaits.

I use the Cara Head Turner and the Cara 6'8" MH. Both are great rods, but I am looking to add a composite rod for bladed jigs and some treble hook baits. Dobyns DC735CBMF looks like a prime candidate or maybe the DC705CB,

Seems like there are two primary preferences on a "good" chatterbait rod.

Some people like a mod-fast that loads the rod to help the bait rip off the grass in a slower fashion.
Some people like a fast-tip for the responsiveness and quick hit.

Personally, I use a 7'4" -heavy-, fast action for my jackhammers and I have a great landing ratio with it. It's a single jig hook, I want a fast action MH or H and braid-to-leader. fish
