If I am fishing in a shallow area and see the cast netters coming in my direction, I point and ask them to go somewhere else and then troll up closer to the bank closing them off. It has worked 100% of the time so far.
Reality. What a concept!

Several years ago, I went to that little cove to the NW of the intake and threw a cast net. The net was so full of large tilapia that I could hardly pick up the net. I doubt that the tilapia population is that prolific today.
Seems like as many as ever to me. Same thing here on Squaw Creek(when we could fish it). Doesn’t seem like the cast netters have any effect on the prolific tilapia. While I’m not a fan of the tilapia in our bass lakes it amazes me how the bass populations(numbers) in these lakes with tilapia seem to historically be very high. Squaw Creek, Fairfield, Fayette County…… (large bass populations are probably simply a byproduct of being raised in year round warm water from the power plants). Do tilapia negatively effect largemouth bass size? Is the increased food source of juvenile tilapia for the bass better than the negative impact from competition between bass and adult tilapia? 🤔🤷🏻♂️ Sure seems like they don’t negatively impact the quantity/numbers of the bass.
