I typically use 1/4 or 5/16.
Will use pegged 3/8 or 1/2 if fishing heavier cover and fish are holding on bottom.

You couldn’t pay me to use anything less than 3/8, I would go insane fishing that slow. Same here. Plus I think a bigger weight transmits the bottom better. fishing it under 8' the fall rate is pretty important...and fishing slow is my bread and butter....I will fish right behind a burner down a section of cover and catch fish when they did not That is 2 way street though as not all fish are the same. For as many that want it slow there are many that react to a faster fall. We catch fish behind Senko soakers all the time. I was at a tackle show and they had the large trailer size fish aquarium doing demonstrations with soft plastics. The fish in there could care less about slow sinking baits but were all over fast falling ones. Before I saw that, I used to think the slowest fall rate was best because so many keep saying that,,,because that is what they were always told.

Beaver or craw I pitch on 5/16-3/8. Straight tail worm, baby brush hawg usually 1/4. I have never tossed a Texas rig with less than 3/16 +1

If I am flipping at targets in less that 5 foot, it is always at least 3/8. In my experience, the faster fall rate will get exponentially more bites around targets like bushes, wood, docks, etc. I want them reacting to it, not looking and trying to decide whether they want to eat it or not. Off shore and brush piles I will go as light as 1/4 if it is a really heavy pile, gnarly root system, or rock.
