Not the best fishing lake for sure, a pretty lake and a lake you can catch Smallmouth along the cliffs near the damn and rainbow trout below the damn and stripers. I live near by but don't get out there often enough to give great tips... But I usually use one of a few finesse techniques. Wacky rigged worm, Shakyhead, Drop Shot, etc. The water has been super clear with all the Zebra mussels but there is now grass in the lake, Hydrilla is a first in my lifetime to see... it's up towards the river and maybe worth a try not sure how long they let it stay but we'll see. I would say the largest fish in the lake will be up towards the river and I'm caught my largest in Toms Creek (4lbs +/-)

Thanks CADD....been going to Canyon Lake for 30+ years and have caught some smallies (PB-3lbs) and saw some grass last year starting. Hydrilla is what this lake needs....help produce more bait and cover. I have used drop shot and shakey head near North Park and caught some fish. But large fish are HARD to find...may have to explore Tom's. Just put Active Target on my boat....so I will play with that. Most of the fish I've caught have been 1-1.5lbs...but you cannot beat the scenery!!

Here's a first for me. Caught a rainbow trout yesterday afternoon on a shaky head with finesse worm. Probably fished Canyon several hundred times, never caught a trout. Water temp was about 68-70.

Canyon needs to be re-stocked with some largemouth fingerlings. Been getting pretty scarce to catch a few of them.

It’s been a long time since I have posted. Go early and fish the main points with grass. 4 inch twitch baits work great for bass up to 4 lbs. plenty of rude people will cut between you and the grass your fishing. Enjoy!!

Good to hear about someone catching 4 pound fish. If I ever catch one at Canyon Lake I will probably have it mounted!

Thanks jugmaster....and old fishing buddy PM'd (timberlake) me with the same info. I saw a little grass last year. What colors are you liking on plastics. Watermelon/Candy with chartreuse dipped tail has been my go to color. Do you throw any shad colors? Weightless Flukes have always worked for me on Canyon....W/Red and White/Ice. I am looking forward to 3+days on Canyon....and fishing grass!

According to the Canyon Lake Fishing page on FB, lots of LMB action for the last few weeks. Maybe its the hydrilla?

Canyon is fishing pretty good right now for numbers with a 3-5 punder mixed in. With all the social media hype of the stripers the population will get thinned out a bit this year allowing some bait to grow along with the grass doing the same.. The lake in a year or 2 will pretty awesome

The lake is fishing better than I have ever seen it. There are fish around the grass and the rocks. There have been a bunch of fish in the 3-4 pound range caught in tournaments recently. Advice given above will produce. The hydrilla is making a difference and like said above, give it a year or two and we will see a big difference. Already are to be honest.
