You talking about the Converse Lake Park on School street yeah? Always confusion between that one and the larger one to the north east.
Spend some time on that lake and it becomes clear why the population remains. Most people fishing there bring their heavy catfish or redfish rigs and don't catch anything. Even the pure bass guys with their full size gear don't dent the population. The fish are 95% juvenile, all year round it seems. I tear it up with the ultralight gear.
In other good news, for us at least, one guy I met there has obtained a permit from the Texas Inland Fisheries Department to transport and deposit a number of sunfish (lepomids). So the biodiversity and overall numbers of sunfish will be increasing.
