We do. It's tied with Perry's fish And if I’m not mistaken, it was 22-5. Not considered the record because it has to be by more than 2oz. Of course Dottie is the record in my mind. Just unfortunate the guy accidentally foul hooked her.

Has anyone ever caught a bass over 20 lbs that wasn’t on live bait other than George Perry ( and there’s a lot of doubt about if that one was real)? Most of the really big ones in a California were caught with crawdads. Several of the 20's in California were caught on artificial

I like Barry, but ready to see his record broken. I think we might be close to seeing that happen.

Just watched a guy named Birge on the MLF Tourney on Fork eying an 8lb-er on his live scope pulling his bait right in front of the fish’s nose, then BAM. Got’em. If you “Bass Purists” think THAT is any more pure than catching a big one on a crappie jig, I don’t know what world you’re living in. I think the JJ method of catching the Lunkers is great, and should be counted as a state record, but don’t poo-poo somebody getting a bite by a record bass on a crappie jig. Just Sayin’. . .

I've caught a 10.7 and an 11.4 on a crappie jig and 6 pound test... on a 5 1/2 foot ultra light cherry wood rod and a pfluger present ultra light spinning real.....in timber. Anyone that does not think that takes as much or more skill than sticking one with a M/H bait casting rod and 20 fluoro jump right in and explain... When it’s your day….it’s your day. I did everything possible to not land my PB, but I caught it anyways.

I think the minnow fishing takes away from it in most guys minds. thats the only thing ill "hate" on someone for...well wont hate, but its a different degree of respect. Live bait and fooling these fish into thinking a piece of metal/plastic is live bait/edible is a whole different level, for me at least. where was it caught and when? Never heard of either person

I like Barry, but ready to see his record broken. I think we might be close to seeing that happen. I agree. Barry is a very nice man but he was not bass fishing when he accidentally caught the state record. I got to hear directly from him how it happened when he caught her. It is widely known that the crappie gather in great numbers off the mainlake point in the mouth of Little Caney in the late winter. There were approximately 20 boats all crappie fishing within a cast from Barry's boat when he caught her. A gentleman in a bass boat next to him saw how big the fish was when it surfaced at Barry's boat. He jumped into Barry's boat and netted the fish. Barry was fishing from a runabout boat with no livewell. He talked Barry into letting him put this massive fish in the livewell of his bass boat to take it to Minnow Bucket to weigh. Barry did not realize what he had. I suspect that 18 pound bass may have wound up in Barry's freezer had it not been for the man that helped him land & weigh the fish. I want to see a Texas Lake produce a 20 pound fish in my lifetime!

Just unfortunate the guy accidentally foul hooked her. This is correct about the fish from Japan. I also agree that Dottie should be the WR bass. And before we get too excited, a 25 pound bass is a WORLD away from an 18 pound bass!

Y’all think the FFS guys take this tactic to the California waters? There’s got to be some big ones still out there swimming.
