Too windy to get the boat out yesterday, so I went to the state park to fish the bank. Overcast skies and a strong south wind. Fished about 2 hours mid-day and caught 5 stripers and one 14" sand bass. Brought home 3 stripers that were 20-21", released 2 that were right at 18". 1/2 oz jighead with a 4" chartreuse curly-tail.

Are the sandies and stripers back in the main lake from their spring run in the creeks? I was at Twak last week and they hadn’t really returned yet. Also, have the shad started spawning yet?

Brother and I for fished today at Whitney from 8am till 11 am, caught 20 stripers, kept our limit of 10. Probably could have caught more. Trolling with umbrella rigs using 4” swim baits. I had 4 doubles, each time a keeper and a 17”. Great fun when you have out 75-100 yards of line and 2 stripers on, sure beats fishing straight down south shad.

Whitney was on fire yesterday morning. I was down in the lower end of the lake and got into some surface schooling. Started fishing around 8:20 and by 9:30 I had caught 25 and had my 5 keepers in the livewell. A couple of 17-18" mixed in, but almost all were 20-22". Caught them on topwaters and 1/2 oz white curly-tail jigs. Lost a nice one that straightened out both treble hooks on a topwater. Fished a couple of more hours after the surface schooling stopped, and the final tally ended up at 31 fish. One big sand bass, the rest stripers. Fantastic day.
Wish I had been on the water right at sunup, I'm sure the surface schooling had been going on for a while by the time I got there.

isaacfisher, I was in the area between Lofer's Bend East and the mouth of Towash creek. Not far from the shore at all, about 100 yards or so.
I had started out trolling, but within 5-10 minutes I saw the big splashes in the distance. There were no birds around at all. Also, there wasn't another boat in sight, which was pretty surprising.

Had boat trouble yesterday and got out today with limited luck. Managed to get one around the island and lost another. Wish I would have seen these posts before and if I could go out tomorrow, I would! Really appreciate the help!

Hey guys! Today will be my first time ever on Whitney (pending weather). How is the wind on this lake? This evening is predicted 15 mph north wind. Is that going to create a lot of chop on this lake?

There is deep water near the state park. But the area I found them surface schooling on Thur was only 14-16' deep, with very shallow water nearby.
