Sorry, I am not making my meaning clear. Normally the transducer is pointed down. But if you pointed the transducer sideways, would it work like a side=finding unit? Or maybe the transducer lacks a direction?

Or maybe the transducer lacks a direction? Dude, I am not going to bother trying to explain the simple to you any more. Use google and look the thing up and answer your own questions. You seem to be really confused as to what a small fish finder does and how it works. So look it up and see if it will do what you need. If it does, great. If it doesn't then look for something else.
