I have been trying this out for two weeks and really am getting into it!

I eat dinner and that is it. Not doing the 16/8 version that is so popular. I want to jump right into the advanced level. No snack. No breakfast or lunch. Water, Topo Chico and green tea. Then when dinner comes I dont go hog wild. Just try to eat real food and in normal amount. Real food meaning not from a box. Salmon, spinach and a baked potatoes have been my go to.

The hunger comes in waves but passes pretty quick. I had tried carnivore, low cal/low fat, keto and they all work for a period. Two weeks into this experiment and down 11 lbs. Hoping this is something that I can adjust to doing longer term. Once you get "use" to it...its manageable. I actually feel sharper actually! Physically and mentally. But I wont lie... you can feel the hunger at times. Gotta work through it.

I read a great book by Dr. Jason Fung called "The Obesity Code" that was really informative. Lots of data based on the best research out there. Its not too dry and gives you a really well rounded understanding of body weight and how its regulated. And get this... he says that calories do not make you fat, insulin does!

Anyone read this book or have any experience with fasting for health and weight loss?

I started out two weeks ago at 243. I am at 232 now. Ideally 215-220 is a good place for me to be. So about another 15lbs roughly.

I am 6'4.

So far so good! I really got used to the not eating after a week or so. Lots of Topo Chico, green tea and water with lemon can make you feel full. The hunger comes in waves. After a 5 minutes it passes and might not come back for a few hours or more.

I feel pretty good and weight is still coming off albeit more slowly now.

Makes you really excited about dinner and making sure whatever it is you do eat is excellent. I am not being too restrictive on what I eat other than staying away from the obvious; added sugars and highly processed foods. Just eating real food. I have also found I feel "fuller" more quickly than I thought.

Its really about keeping blood sugar low and consistent and not spiking insulin levels all day. Just doing it once a day.

Again for info I suggest reading or listening to Dr. Fungs book. Its not fringe stuff. He is a respected guy. He has the data and studies etc. that show this is healthy, normal for humans (to limit feeding windows and not always be eating from sunrise to bed) and works for weight loss and offers many other health benefits.

Good job, Danno. I'll get back to the IF as soon as we move outta the house and into apt. If I'm gonna be gazing at the young wimmins at poolside in our new place, I want them gazing back at this fat, hairy legged, beer bellied, gray haired wanna be GQ.

Keep up the good!

If you can reverse when you're eating, things might change quicker. We burn more calories during sleep than you think. A 200lb man can burn up to 450-600 calories during sleep.

Eat a late breakfast and early lunch then nothing for dinner. Your body will be hungry during sleep and that's how calories are burnt.

I'm doing a healthy keto plus intermittent fasting and can feel a difference after the first week. Stay off the scales, it's all about inches lost.

Yo thanks for the advice Roller! What I am doing works for me in that I can have dinner with the wife.

Did a 48 hour fast that I broke yesterday at dinner. I wont lie...that was hard. The 24 hours I have been doing is not cake but got to be pretty easy. The 48 was different. I did not feel great and even after eating still feeling a little meh. Think I am going to stick to the 24 and mix in some 16/8 here and there.

Its really made life simple... you only have to plan for one meal a day!

The scale is just one tool as mentioned. But mine this morning shows 230. So down 13lbs in 16 days. I can almost see my goal of 220. I am thinking this is a little fast to lose that much but outside of the "fasting flu" I had toward the end of the 48 hour fast I have felt just fine. Blood pressure is normal, heart rate is normal, nothing outside of norm.

I would suggest folks research this and give it a go! Its really not that hard once you get a few days in. The 48 hour deal... thats another story but one meal a day is not too hard.

Thank you sir!

I am sure they will be all over you! Big personality gets the women. Look at that Pete Davidson guy... he looks like someone plucked big bird but he gets all the ladies. Big personality.

Dan your statement about "Its really made life simple... you only have to plan for one meal a day!" is so true. I have a egg, sausage and cheese soft taco for breakfast and then a sensible meal for lunch. Wife and I both like not having to worry about supper.

Keep it up.

Thanks you sir! Sounds like you and the wife found something that works for you! One of the cool things about this is it does offer you a lot of ways to approach the plan and still get results on the scale and be healthier!

The first person who I saw this really work for, first time I heard of it really, was from a friend I worked with some years back who after her second child really got into shape fast!

She told me all she did was eat whatever she felt like from 6am to noon so breakfast and lunch, of course not pigging out just eating until full, and then not eat again until the next morning. Sounded crazy to me at the time but turns out she was just ahead of the curve actually. She was doing an 18/6 and did not even know it. How do you like that.

I guess what I have been doing is considered intermittent fasting. I have been eating 2 or 3 meals (healthy) a day, with my first meal at 11:00 am and last meal by 6 or 7:00 pm. No snacks in between and way less beer. I’ve lost 55 lbs in 6 months. Not sure if it’s the fact I eat mostly chicken, fish, veggies and egg whites or the time frame I’m eating but it has worked. No more weight loss as I’m 170lbs now so been hitting the weights much harder.

So since about the end of last August I've been doing it - No breakfast, maybe a slimjim for lunch, then dinner. My problem is sweets... There's always something sitting on the counter. Anyways - I've lost about 25 pounds, just by cutting lunch out. Before we were eating huge take-out lunches. I think once it warms up I'm going to start riding again and try to get back in to the low 200's.

Starting in 2016 I went from 270, got down to about 210 and stayed around 220 till covid, then gradually got back up to 270 last Aug... Being healthy is tough working and raising kids full time.

Good luck to all of y’all. I’ve finally started my IF again on Monday. 4th day and already feel better. Got a ways to go, though. Weight is embarrassingly at 240lbs.

I’ve done 3 day fasts, water only, several times when I’ve gone through my dieting phases

After the first day, your body gets used to the hunger pangs and by the third day, it’s not bad at all.

Being lightheaded is a problem though

Go buddy! You got this.

I am now 7 weeks in on my journey to better health and not being a fat bastard.

Still hanging in there with the one meal a day. I only cheated one day. Had lunch AND dinner. Topo Chico with lemon is great for any hunger pangs, which can be severe, however they pass in 5-10 minutes.

Hit a bit of a plateau there and the scale did not move for a full week. Started adding in an hour of cardio alternated every other day with an hour of weight training. That has got things going again.

Down 19lbs since I started. Figure I have about 10lbs to go, that would put me at 215 and then I will be a sexy beach.

Stay hard fellas! You can do it.

I have twice gone 36 hours and I did not feel good at all. Messed me up. So I am sticking to the one meal a day deal. I have heard that many people can go several days, even a week or more and feel fine after the first day.

3 days is pretty hardcore. Props.

The journey of 1000 miles starts with one step! You can do this!

I am sitting at around 217 now. So down roughly 26lbs since Feb 1.

Still doing the same thing. One meal a day 6 days a week. On weekends we go for brunch on Saturdays and I still eat dinner. So one day a week I eat two meals. Of course no snacking at all. Few days I ate breakfast because I planned to be in the kayak all day. That can be pretty physical if your going a distance so the extra "ummph" from an apple and an avocado for breakfast was welcome on those days and was quite a treat.

Starting to get quite used to it now. Someone asked what I planned to do for "maintenance" when I get to goal. Thing of it is I am not sure what my goal is now. A six pack? Maybe. IDK. But I cannot see myself going back to eating 3 times a day. I actually like the convinces offered by just having the one meal. I am going though Topo Chico by the cases though lol.

You got this buddy. I know you can do it. Just start simple and get rid of the processed food. If its processed its out. That alone would get you some great traction I bet.

I have only eaten two meals a day for almost 15 years . Before I eat in the AM , I drink 12 ounces of pressed celery juice , wait 30 minutes , then 32 ounces of water before eating . then 32 to 64 ounces of water throughout the day --- then dinner at approx 6pm . I am not trying to lose weight , just want to have more energy and not feeling tired during the day .
I did some detox stuff this past month that was crazy . FAR I/R sauna for 30 minutes followed up by colon hydrotherapy for one hour . Insane what came out --- and how good I felt after .
During the sauna use ---- I actually sweated so much that black stains were on the towel when I was done . The Dr said it was leeching heavy metals out of my body .
I also lost almost 4 lbs from start to finish in one day .

That's interesting. Where does one go to do such a thing?

That's interesting. Where does one go to do such a thing?

my primary residence is in Cali , so it was done there . If you do any searching in the bigger cities in Texas ---it should be really easy to find FAR I/R Sauna places . They kinda look like a 4' X 4' X 4' size soft material based box , your head sticks out the top ---- crazy how hot it gets . For the colon hydrotherapy --- thats a little more difficult --I used an " open system " VS a " closed system " . The the primary differences being the patient can control the water flow themselves with an open system and the Dr can examine what comes out to determine your issues . The open system pumps 15 gallons of water through your large intestine in one hour . Go online to see the system ---it's called Colonz , blue colored . The theory is reducing the toxins in the colon , liver , gall bladder help drive up the efficiency of those organs allowing for reduced stress on the system and higher nutritional uptake ---100% believe it has helped me .

Congrats on losing weight. I'm down to 237 from 298. I'm trying to eat better with smaller portions. As a kid we were taught to clean our plates. It's something I've struggled with for yearsssssss. I try also to eat slower and leave a little something on the plate.

Yesssss! Great job on the weight loss brother that is impressive! Over 60lbs!

I hear you on the "Clean your plate" thing. I was not allowed to leave the table until the plate was empty. A habit I still subconsciously practice to this day. If its on my plate I will eat it.

Fasting helps with that! Esp the one meal a day deal I have been doing bcs you really can eat all you like. You should eat until full in that case.

Just an update on my progress I am now down to 210. So roughly 35lb down since Feb 1. I have not been losing anymore. Been static or bouncing around in a 2-3lb range. I have started to eat lunch 3-4 days a week and only do the one meal a day thing about half the time. If my weight ticks up a bit I do a 48 hour fast and that nips it in the bud.

So yeah, I cannot suggest this enough. Once you get into it just seems normal and you wonder "How they hell did I eat 3 times a day!? And had snacks here and there!?! Like all i must have been doing was setting up my next meal constantly" lol

Now, my next goal if you would, is to get back into the lifting and improve functional strength and flexibility. All part of my plan to still be able to get out and fish when I get up there in age. And getting up there is starting to creep already. I have to set myself up now for success in 20 years.

Also cannot wait to get my blood work done. My blood sugars and cholesterol were not good to say the least. I am expecting big improvements in both.

Not sure when my next check up is but when it comes up I will share the results.

If you have been fasting your blood work will be off actually high in fats because that is what the body has been burning... Dr. Fung has some great info on fasting, watched a bunch of his videos... I’ve been fasting as a means of controlling my weight for years, love my Tex-mex...lol. Longest I’ve gone is seven days with only water... when I first started it was hard to go two to three days, headache, dizzy, and hunger pains... now it’s a breeze, your body will get used to it... I’ll eat normal for a month...then do a three to seven day fast and follow that with a 24hr fast of one meal a day for a week or two to get back where I want my weight then start all over... lol good luck to all who are doing this, it is good for you !

It works. You are right at first its tough but you do get used to it pretty quick and it becomes no big deal.

Dr. Fung's content is great. There is a lot of BS in any "weight loss/control" space but he is the real deal. Its all based on science not hype or non sense or trying to sell some pill, fad, bizarre diet etc. Its just eat less often, burn more fat, and your overall health wont only not suffer but will greatly improve.

Simple. You only have to do the work and show discipline and it will work.

I do it, but I do not believe that it works like most people believe it does and there are studies showing it actually does not work for most. I believe it works for me because I am a grazer. I eat when I'm bored or when I am stressed. The intermittent fasting helps me to control that. Am I losing weight? Yes. However, from September 1 to March 23 I lost 23 pounds. Period. That's nuts. I am losing weight much more quickly now as I spend 4 hours in the pool and eat a diet consisting of mostly low caloric foods that are high in nutrients like mushrooms, onions, spaghetti squash, beets, sweet potatoes, eggplants, blueberries, apples, strawberries, melons, asparagus, boneless/skinless chicken breasts and thighs, lean ground turkey, salmon, catfish, tuna, etc. One of the reasons I am losing weight a bit more slowly this time is due to the fact that since 2012 I haven't been eating a lot of high calorie/high fat foods (except avocados, I LOVE avocados and thankfully they are good for you!). I just eat too much of the good stuff...my numbers are fine, other than my weight and it's getting better.

I wish you all luck in your endeavors.

Intermittent fasting has lot of health benefits past just losing weight. Personally I think it's one of the best things someone can do for themselves. It has a ton of benefits.

Sitting in bed in the hotel room here in Little Rock and my belly is covering almost half the screen on my iPad. It’s time. I gotta get back on the IF. Starting today! Another big problem is my beer consumption as of late. I have decided to give up the alcohol for a while and cut way back on amounts of food that I’m consuming. No more food for me between 5pm and 11am for a while. Committed once again! cry

Y’all keep up the good work. I’ll be frequenting this thread a lot more now that I’m back on the wagon, or is it off the wagon?

I got to 279 over the last two years, I'll blame Covid, why not. I'm 6 foot and was fat. I love to eat, except liver. yuck.
My doctor was not very happy, and asked me if I had ever tried moderate fasting. I tried my own version and have lost 26
pounds since Feb first...no extra exercise at all. I do bowl a lot, up to 20 games a week, both league and tournaments.
My diet is 7-8 am Coffee sweet low with flavored creamer, 2 cups in morning, and about every other day, 3 scrambled eggs with mex salsa. One more meal about 3-4pm steak/fish with veggies. Tea or water. If I get hungry I might have a small instant oatmeal about 7pm. Thats it. I snack on sunflower seeds if I'm home watching Tv or on computer, but not more than my 25-30.
No pasta, oizza, potatoes, butter, very little milk, no booze, no bread excet a piece of toast sometimes. I
like salads for lunch too, the wife makes, can tuna and/or crab with all the salad stuff, light vinegar and lime juice.
I try to not eat anything after 7pm. My A1C was over 7, it's now below 6, and my dr has decreased my meds.
I have more energy, and sleep better. I'm 73, and finally feel like I'm doing what I want to do, and not waht some magic diet
tells me to do. jim

I reread this thread and I lied. I only got started again with IF 6 days ago. I already feel better. Not fully adjusted yet but getting there. I will miss my voodoo for a while, but mainly will miss eating dinner with my wife. I'm headed to West Texas for business for 3 days next week and cannot wait to see my willpower in progress. Got dinners scheduled w/ customers so I will steer away a little on my times that I eat dinner, but plan to eat very sensibly. I am now weighing 235lbs. And yes...I am fat. It helps my motivation when I come clean in public. So thanks for that, OT.....

For those of you that are IFing.....good luck and stay the course. It really does work if you stick with it.

I started doing the 12 hour daily fast back on May 17th. I only eat from 7:00AM until 7:00PM. There have been several times where I was not hungry so I did not eat much after lunchtime. I really cleaned up my eating but I have made sure it's sustainable. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Good, clean proteins. I try and avoid as much processed foods as possible. It's almost a hybrid Keto/ Paleo way of eating but again its very sustainable. I did cutoutall bread for the first 30 days and didn't really miss it. I think I have had bread 2 times since May. I loved breadbut fasting really resets your taste buds and you stop wanting certain foods.
I haven't really amped up my workouts yet but use a treadmill and Concept 2 rower almost daily.
I am down 37lbs sin May 17th.
I plan on doing a complete 24hr fast monthly as well as a 48-72hr fast every 90 days or so. The health benefits are too goodnot to do it.

I’m not watching what foods I put into my mouth, but I am eating a lot healthier. I still will have bread, rice, an occasional sweet, but just a lot less of everything. Small portions. I talked my wife into eating with me at least on the weekend (4:30pm). We had shake n bake pork chops and oven roasted veggies yesterday. We just now ate a late breakfast…..two eggs over easy and sausage biscuit. Dinner will be at 4:30pm and we’re having shake n’ bake boneless skinless chicken breast (sriracha and Dukes mayo mixture) and then coated with S n’B and baked. We will also have a salad with that. I drink only one diet pop a day and drink a whole lot of water. Trying to walk approx 5mi/day, too. My goal is 215lbs. Got a long way to go but got a good start now.

We are all different and you just have to dovwhat works for you eating wise. I think sometimes my self included. often start eating a certain way to lose weight that simply is not sustainable longterm. I am trying to learn from my mistakes in that regard.
You will reach your goal. Just keep your eyes on the prize. You got this.

For whatever reason I have been able to drop weight at a faster pace than most. I kept wondering why at times I would gain it back even when being on track eating wise. My doctor says I am not naturally a fat guy. They kept doing testing until they finally found that I had Hashimotos disease. It jacks with my immune e system and can cause unexplained weight gain. It also wreaks havoc on your body in other ways. We finally got a medication dialed in that keeps it at bay so hopefully it stays off this time. My labs have always been phenomenal and never matched my weight. They would always tell me that I was the healthiest fat kid they have seen..... roflmao

Thats awesome brother! Like Mark mentioned beyond losing weight there are many other tremendous health benefits.

And again its super easy to do. Just takes a little discipline and ability to say "no... not right now", to yourself sometimes.

Sounds like you have a plan and the will.

Get it done bud. You got this.

I have a pair of shorts, my favorite pair, that last summer I could not wear because I could not button them closed. Those now fall to my shoes immediately without a belt. That feels about as good as you think it would. Feels better than that short moment of mouth pleasure you get from eating. And then when you do get your grub on it is so much better. You savor each bite.

Lets go Okie! Welcome back to the wagon!

Dan, are you still weighing 217? That’s where I’m gonna be. No timeline…..just gonna get there. I will be posting weight periodically to help my inner motivation.

Like your shorts that fall off, I’ve got a couple pairs of jeans that I gauge myself with. When I fit good into those, I feel that I can conquer the world, haha.

You’ve done a great job with IF. Hopefully, others can see that it will make their life healthier and longer lasting if they try it. We’re not only here to help ourselves, but help others along the way if we can.

Keep up the good and let’s keep posting on this thread for accountability. Anyone that wants to share their experience….please do so.

No I have been at or around 210 for the last 6 weeks.

I saw my Dr last week and she had me 6 months ago at 253lbs. I was 213lbs on her scale last week (with my clothes on). I was 209.5 at home naked that morning.

Looking forward to my blood test results. I will share the highlights when I get them back. Hopefully today or tomorrow.

I think I am there. I am 6'4 if I got down to 200 I would have abs. But I am married so who cares. I have started eating more often, like having a light lunch and dinner and the weight is holding. So I am kind of fine tuning it now. I was only eating every 24 hours for along time, now I am moving to more of an 8 hour feeding window... to put it in fishing terms ha ha.

You busted it brutha! You deserve to eat some more. Just don’t overdo it. I didn’t do real well this week due to taking customers out, but I didn’t do too bad, either. I’m back home now and our kids are coming in for the 4th weekend, and I plan to stay on the fasting times and eat the right foods and lesser of them.

Be careful out in this heat and humidity. It's on the bigtime rise. I can gauge how humid it is when I'm walking. Monday I walked my 5.5mi track and a rock hard frozen bottle of water still had a small bit of ice in it when I finished. Today, I barely made it an hour before water was fully melted. Same time during the day. Around 9am start. It takes me 1hr 40min to do the 5.5miles, averaging around 18min miles. I'm feeling better by the day but still a long ways to go. I've prolly lost a few pounds but not many. I'm lagging at a turtle's pace but just want to stay consistent. A little at a time.......here we go!

That's the ticket Okie! Being consistent and disciplined is the way. That said you have to enjoy life. One special occasions I would eat twice a day or have a junk meal. But it had to be something that really was special and not because "Well work sucked today and I did so good yesterday" lol.

You got this!

I mentioned my visit to my Doc from a few weeks back. I have my blood test results! Happy to share some key numbers.

This new data is from blood taken on June 28th. Prior to that my last blood test was on Dec. 30 2021.

A1C was 6.2 and now is 5.0

Total Cholesterol was 312 and is now 208 *Still high but big move down.

Weight was 253 and this time was 213. *Both times with clothes on. Real numbers (I took nude) were 247 and 210 respectively. And yes I was wearing way more clothes in December at the Drs office than I did in June. Suns out guns out! Am I right boys?

This has really worked for me. No special pills or special diet. No counting carbs, calories, grams of protein, points, blah blah. Eat reasonably, eat real food (not processed) and eat once a day. Outside of that meal water and tea only. Unsweet tea! And no artificial sweeteners at all... You animals.

It works. Dr. Fungs book "The Obesity Code" explains it all. But that sums it up.

Nice report, Danno. Your blood test numbers are looking real good. You need to change your handle to Determined Dan or Dedicated Dan. I have to admit a slight setback. Kids and GF are down this weekend for the 4th. Hanging out at poolside, grilling, and enjoying the 4th weekend has turned out to not be a perfect concoction for staying firm on my new commitment. I’ve cheated. I have my annual physical at the DR tomorrow, so we will see how my numbers fare. The last 3 days I have not done well. So Danno, I’ve still gotta live, right? Haha! Today, I’m back on the wagon. Yes, it does seem like a broken record with my journey, but I fully expect to see a considerable change by Oct 1st. Working it the best I know how and hoping to limit my influences as I go along.

One positive thing that I can say is that I have not broken my commitment to my 5.5mi walks every day.

A1C was 6.2 and now is 5.0

Total Cholesterol was 312 and is now 208 *Still high but big move down.

I'm right there with you,...I do the same thing. Doc reduced my meds, AIC down, just gotta do it. It's tuff at first but it smoothes out and becomes the norm. I do still eat buttered popcorn at the movies,...

Headed to the farm with lots of healthy foods that we will prepare. Gonna do lots of roasted veggies, grilled chicken, shrimp, and rice meals. I'm back to eating much smaller portions since the kids went back home. I got my lab results back yesterday and all vitals are in great shape with exception of A1C....before I gained my weight back it was locked in at 5.4. A1C has risen to 5.7. Pre-diabetes is >5.6. So, I gotta get widdit. Weight today is 233. Dress pants are fitting much better. I feel I'm losing inches around the waist as opposed to losing pounds. Stay the course, Okie, stay the course. I will be having just a couple of voodoos over the weekend, but in a very moderate manner. Keep creeping at a turtle's pace but don't ever give up. Gotta get my A1C in check now.

Be safe, stay hydrated, eat healthy, and God Bless all of you over the weekend....

I'm 73, and finally feel like I'm doing what I want to do, and not waht some magic diet
tells me to do. jim

Great work guys! Very strong indeed. Keep it up!

I slipped up a bit on our vacation. I planned it. So it was not so much as "slipped" as I planned a vacation around eating at cool places. We were eating out 3 times a day for almost a week. I was eating when I was not even hungry, even having desserts which I never do. This is a great way to put on weight fast lol. Weight went up to 214lbs.

Getting right back on track. I am going to make a run at 200lbs. I have not been 200lbs since 2009 when I moved to Texas. I am going to set the goal to get to 200 by the end of August.

Lets go!!

We’re all gonna slip a little, but it’s how fast you can get back on track. My doctor has prescribed me Metformin due to my A1C being elevated 5.7 from my normal number of 5.4. I haven’t been losing the weight as easily as before and Doc says it’s prolly due to higher insulin levels makes it harder to lose. I didn’t want to go on another medication, but after reading about it, I thought I’d give it a try and see if it does, in fact, help me lose weight. Still weighing 233.

Weight doesn't come on in a matter of days, it won't be lost in a matter of days. You will hit plateaus. I am constantly changing the things I eat, to keep my body thinking I am not staving it, although I am in a calorie deficit. I focus on eating nutrient dense foods which helps to limit my plateaus. Chicken, legumes, avocados, sweet potatoes, and even cinnamon are great to keep your blood sugar levels. I am fortunate to not have high blood pressure or high blood sugar levels...in my family our choice of death usually comes in heart attack or cancer....very, very little deviation from that. Somehow I'm doing okay on the heart, so guess we'll see about the other. Root vegetables in general, however, are great for you. Potatoes, beets, turnips, carrots, onions, mushrooms, etc. Eat 'em up!

I like grilling food while on the fasting. Living in an apt makes it tougher to do so I go downstairs and grill up a mess and then wife and I eat it for the next several days or longer. This amount should last us until I go out of town on Monday. She can clean up the remainder. I’ve got a good start on it. Just grilled it and finished my early dinner. No more food until 11am tomorrow. Maybe a banana or strawberry or blueberries…..but that’ll be it. Went for a long 6mile walk this morning. Gotta do this, Okie!

Here’s dinner this afternoon, or is it called linner? All I know it’s my last meal of the day until 11am tomorrow. You can eat anything you want if you fast. This plate had more on it than what I’m used to but loaded with carbs and flavor. We swam at the lake today for a little added exercise. God Bless all of those wakeboats out there today. I waved at all of them with a one finger salute! 😂

I'm reading The Obesity Code now and probably going to start IF soon, any updates from people that have been doing it?

I've done it since 9/1/2021. I have lost 98.6 pounds since then. HOWEVER, I only lost 6 pounds in 10 weeks when I started intermittent fasting and not actually counting my calories. There have been numerous studies that show it does not work the way most people do it. It helps me control when I eat, which is important to me, because I am a grazer. Before I started intermittent fasting, if I was bored, I ate. If I smelled food, I ate. If I was stressed or things were just [censored] in my life, I ate. If I was celebrating, I ate. Basically, I ate. Now, I limit the times I eat from 12 pm to 8 pm and I have changed my diet. So, I don't buy into the intermittent fasting as a real diet plan that is sustainable. I use it to change my behavior.

Primarily, I don't eat breads or sugars. I eat whole foods, not very many processed foods at all. One day a week, I do eat a sandwich with my best friend, but other than that, I'm good.

I also eat a LOT of vegetables with my meals, usually 4 or 5 sides of vegetables and one protein.

Not necessarily. Like for me, I can't eat dairy products other than butter. They screw up my digestive system and I stop losing weight for days/weeks. I miss cheese. Every single body is different.

The way most people tout Intermittent Fasting is that you can eat whatever you want, as long as you eat it within an 8 hour span. That's [censored].

Yes. That (Fung books) were Mrs RayBob's go-to source when she started this type of lifestyle eating in Sept 2022. She talked me into this so I started in October. I'm down 24 lbs but I'm much older than you and we periodically have cheat days. I was quite the fat-azz at 222 lbs and 5'7". I'm at 198 now. Goal is 170. Mrs RayBob also joined a FB IF group. Also she says loss of inches are more important than pounds.

A tip or maybe a trick to fool your body when hungry is we keep a small bottle of the pink himalayan salt "rocks". Put one or 2 under your tongue occasionally when hunger hits or if you get a headache.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

Wife and I have been carnivore for 6 months. Have no plans to ever change our diet. We enjoy it.

I found that IF works for me if I eat only when I'm hungry.

By "hungry" I mean when my belly grumbles. Not when I'm bored, or it's "time to eat."

It doesn't usually take much, just a small meal. No need to pig out, just eat a normal portion of whatever I want then wait for my stomach to growl again.

Another thing I've learned - if I don't wake up starving, then I ate too much the night before. Dinner to breakfast should be about a 12-hour fast. Hence the name, break-fast.

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!" ― Hunter S. Thompson

Overall, I eat a lot more foods, just lower calories because I eat more vegetables than proteins at my meals and I don't eat breads/things made with flour or sugar.

Healthy food is the foundation. Period. Healthy. Not what the food industry wants you to eat. All these gimmick diets only work for a season. Not a life. Already studies are starting to come out showing the negative effects of the keto craze. Healthy food equals eat all you want. If one gives it just a bit of time for your body and tastes to develop for truly healthy foods, it is life changing and amazing. I ate a salad last night that came entirely out of my garden this year and it was as good as anything I have ever eaten.

Extra weight is deadly over the long haul.

My wife got on a healthy food kick, no processed food, salads out the wazoo . . . it was hell around here as nobody else could/would eat her choices. On top of that she had inflammatory issues (sore joints). She was not overweight ever ... she's 5'5" and at her most weighed 145 (2022). Finally last fall as she would still gain weight at a rate of 2-4 lbs a year(she's 52) she happened upon the literature mentioned in the OP by Dan written by Dr. Jason Fung. She read several other authors also and their theories/findings/observations/proposed benefits concerning intermittent fasting and started making that a lifestyle late summer/early fall 2022. I got on board in late October 2022. (I'm 5'7" and weighed 222 in 10/2022)) She is down to 122 and I'm down to 192. We're continuing this journey. My goal is to live at less than 160. She has reached her goal weight for the most part but more importantly her pain is much less.

Note: her hip pain was so bad in her R hip that she had a full radiological workup where a "shadow" was seen in the R pelvic girdle which resulted in a consult with an oncologist in Htown. (scared the krap out of us). Follow up MRI and the shadow has since dissipated (1/23). I have to conclude based on my experience that the weighted MRI image was showing an inflammatory process. The early reports in August was possible multiple myeloma, that was the "shadow" seen on the 1st MRI imaging.

I'm sold on the intermittent fasting. I know some say it won't work without significant caloric cuts but once you only eat over only a 4 hour window the end result is you're taking in less calories by default.

I am also working to cut back on most processed foods and glutens.

As alway, YMMV.

Glad to see so many people having success with various things. Aside from quitting smoking getting to and staying at a healthy weight is the number one thing you can do to improve your health and the number of healthy active years you have to live. I think the secret is there is no secret. When you are trying to lose weight you need to have a caloric deficit. Get there in whatever way suits you best and is sustainable for your particular lifestyle. Whether that's Keto, carnivore, weight watchers, intermittent fasting, paleo, whole 30, or whatever. Once you get to a healthy weight, it's time to focus in on building muscle and stability.

Great book on this I just read called, "Outlive" by Peter Attia. I can't recommend it enough if you are trying to live a longer healthier life.

Keep it up gents!

Never heard that trick, will give it a shot.

I am big fan of the Pink Himalayan salt, I smear that and Kerry Gold butter on my steam green veggies like brocolli and asparagus, excellent table fare......
