Very well said Ben Let me echo what many others have said... this is shaping up to be a banner whitebass spawning run & season on the Yegua... But let me also emphasize that this means there will be thousands of fishermen beating the banks of the creek in the state park. Please do not litter and always be respectful of others. Try to be kind and helpful in your interactions with other fishers and nature in general.
The state park system is for the general public and that includes everyone regardless of culture or origin of birth.
Some fishermen like myself are only in it for the fun and challenge but many others are fishing for dinner so it matters much more to them...
====================================================================== +2 on that, and thx, H-L&S/William/Ben-my young man._. On pointing that out...I pickup about half of a 5 gallon bucket full of trash yesterday, on My way out,had fished downstream._.(My 17 keeper Whites/1 Crappie wouldn't fit in there, anyhow...lol)...And also met new game warden also on my way back right before parking lot, nice guy, and was glad to see him out there, for sure... I'll try to post pics+report on my catch later, or as soon as I can find my cell-phone...lol "Tight Lines+No Bad Days" Peace Out

Got there at 7am and had a limit of 25 by 815am. Continued to catch fish and kept count and ended up catching 105 by 1230pm. It's been over a year since I've caught a white bass and I definitely made up for it today.

It was a really great day at Newman Bottom. I saw so many full stringers coming out of there today. Ben and I had a blast out there today and ran into lots of people I hadn't saw in a while. The water is clearing quickly and it wasn't surprising that the fly of choice today was the Magical Clouser. I found one small area loaded with big females. I caught 10 fish in that area and 6 of them were big females. I gave up the spot to Ben so he could enjoy the fun and he pulled out another 8 big females from that small spot. I ended up catching 36 white bass. Or about a third of what Jon caught today ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2022/02/full-89995-128415-magical_clouser.jpg)

Wow! great reports. I fished at Newman's today. I didn't do quite so well, but I managed to catch my first fish of 2022. Ended the day with 6 white bass. Got kind of a late start and a slow beginning as I tried downstream first. Caught one downstream, before heading upstream with the crowds. Struggled to find places to fish with so many people, but managed to squeak out enough for a solid fish fry. Glad to finally get on the board this year. 😁

Jmoe I left at 1230 due to over crowding and someone throwing across me even though I was at that spot since sun up. I was at the bluff just past the first bend in the creek past the Gulley upstream. I helped many people get their limit of keepers. I was glad to do so.

I suspect that only the Yegua will be producing good numbers of whitebass until "if and when" there is another good flush of water coming down the smaller creeks like Cedar, Nails, Birch and Jerdelle. However the crappie fishing in the lower end of any of the smaller creeks should still hold up well as long as the lake is higher than normal. Most of the intense whitebass spawning action for the year is often between the next two full moons that happen over the last two weeks of February thru the first two weeks of March after which the whitebass will begin heading back to the lake and by April 1st whitebass fishing will be all but over in the creeks for the year... History has taught that the one exception to this scenario that I look for is a "high water event" late into the whitebass spawning run because that is when the hybrids will show up in the creeks, especially if the shad have moved up into the creeks beforehand...

Got you, I walked around that area as it very fly fishing unfriendly I'm glad for those people, especially the ones who were throwing over you, that you demonstrated great patience 105 fish in a morning, That's quite a target for Troy this season

I will be there in the morning. I’m glad Jon got to experience that kind of a day. I’m 59 and have been fishing for as long as I can remember and I’ve only experienced that good of a day 5 or 6 times. Very few and far in between. Hopefully I can have that kind of day tomorrow.

Haha. How do you all even keep track of that many fish? Do you carry one of those clickers for counting fish? I didn't think they went into the triple digits. 😄
