Well, I haven’t seen a 16 come out of Ivie yet so I’m not of the opinion that it’s earned the “goat” name…

This is correct. The extended draw downs are the key. When that regrowth of vegetation gets flooded it's an infusion of nutrients that literally changes a lake. It's a mini version of the new lake effect. The really big difference for Ivie as opposed to DFW and East Texas lakes is the fact that it is in an area that guarantees it will see continued extended draw downs from drought from now on. That and the fact that the shoreline is largely undeveloped and will be allowed to actually grow back. The limiting factor for Ivie will be getting enough rain to actually flood the vegetation.

Fork is the GOAT, will always be the GOAT, but doesn’t mean it’s the best right now. I agree 100% Ivie is the best big fish fishery in the state today. Time will tell if it can hold up to pressure as well as Fork has. We’ve watched other lakes like Falcon, Choke, Amistad, and TBend challenge the GOAT’s status as well, then they fade away after a couple years of pressure, spraying, or the Cajun factor.

With 30 of the top 50 fish coming out of Fork, and 13 out of the top 20....I'd say it gets the title of GOAT!

Chris had some great points on the draw downs/vegetation.

When was that last big run we had on Ivie? Seems like it was 10 years ago or so.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Back on topic, I never said GOAT, I am saying that fork is just an average lake, the population has been propped up by stockings that no other lake has ever recieved in Texas. Ivie has surpassed it, now will it last, can it take pressure ???? Who knows. I'm sure a bunch of the youtubers, attention seekers etc will kill plenty with the constant haul of big ones to the marinas, glamour shots etc and that will take a toll. You gotta think the snow birds that have flocked to fork for years will be looking out west at ivie. Probably hurt the guides and hotels around fork a bit. Fork will still kick one out from time to time. She had her day and that has passed.

The world was a better place when The Cowboys always won, and Fork was pumping out teeners....
