The whole point of the Florida stocking was operation world record, since it appears thats never going to happen now (doubtfull it could have happened in the early days but it sure won't now with the increased pressure on our lakes) I'm all for stocking the hybrids, there are many sharelunkers entered every year that are northern/florida crosses.

There are still giants in AH, the locals just learned to keep lower key about it after finding out what a little publicity did to their lake.

Stock whatever strain you want and leave Hydrilla alone/plant it, problem solved.
See you on the lake and have a great day!

When the TPWD stock Florida bass, they are not for fishermen to catch necessarily, but to introduce their genetics into the Northern strain. The Northern strain is the dominant species in Texas as far as genetics go. The first spawn with Floridas is going to create millions of F1 fry; way more than TPWD could ever stock. Every time a new class is born, it is more Northern than Florida. Without stocking the few Floridas the TPWD does stock, the bass would revert to 100% Northern. You do not want to revisit those days. Makes perfect sense… If you’ve ever been on Camelot Belle or any pure Florida strain fisheries all you have to do is say the word cold front and a bite can’t be bought… they are finicky as can be but dang they get big!! Having said that.. I’m thinking Bois D Arc is going to be one tough post frontal condition body of water!

Where did you find the data on the current genetic makeup of the bass population in Texas? I would like to see that. I would have assumed that since they have been stocking Florida genetics since the 1970's that there would be many lakes that have a pretty high % of Florida genetics throughout the population. Be an interesting data set to see.

Not so sure. Maybe you fellas are not as old as me, but I remember well the days before Florida Bass. Typically we would go out on Toledo and catch/keep a limit of 20 bass 12, 14 maybe 16" long. A 5 pounder was a real catch, and an 8 pounder was a trophy that went on the wall.
Agree. Most bass clubs had a 6 pound pot and it might take a couple years to win it. And that was fishing lakes like Toledo, Palestine, Rayburn. And it was unheard of to catch a bass over a pound or two in a metroplex lake. This was all pre 1980.
Retirement best job ever.

Me and my buddy knew it was big so we ran back to his house carrying this fish on a stringer. His dad was a big tournament club fisherman and had scales. He freaked out when he weighed it and within an hour I think the whole bass club and other anglers came by to see this fish

Be an interesting data set to see. TPWD pulls the DNA data when they do surveys. Go to the "lake finder" section of the TPWD website and find whatever lake you want to look at. Scroll down the link for the latest survey report. There will be a link to download the PDF on the left side of the page about halfway down. There will also be links to all the previous surveys as well. Here is all the DNA data on Ray Roberts. As you can see, the Florida bass DNA drastically declines as the lakes age. TPWD can't stock enough fish to keep it from happening. They keep Fork's % of Florida DNA up by putting half a million Florida bass in the lake every year but Fork gets special treatment and they still shock up very few pure Florida bass. There is some real data not based on rumors of "the good ol days". The "good ol days" were post stocking of Floridas, pre stocking of millions more people.

Texas will definitely look into this and do a study on it ...... which will take 20-30 years for them to complete - we’ll all pretty much be dead by then. yep
