“Bass tournament exemptions

Bass tournaments can receive an exemption to the rule that only one fish 16 inches or more could be kept per day. Tournament anglers could keep five bass, regardless of length, and release them after the weigh-in.”

My money is on the tournament organizations setting a 5 fish 12” or 14” min, if that’s the case nothing changes tournament wise.

That will be a strange law if they allow tournament anglers an exemption. Looks like a recipe for potential problems.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Oklahoma: fill these forms out… pass them out to all of your anglers. Report all this junk. We want to get rid of the small fish problem we have.

Texas: if you want to, submit your double digit bass and possibly win all these awesome prizes.

Blows my mind!

Personally I think it's good that different states employ different management strategies. That's the way things actually get learned. The reality is that pressure on bass populations is at an all time high. It's insane to think that management strategies don't need to be adjusted. Personally I've never been one to think that public lakes have an over population of bass, but I'm no biologist so I am open minded on the subject.

Why have a keep one over 16”, if the goal is for bigger bass. Seems they’d want to leave the bigger bass that are already there.

What it means are slowed down weigh process's! Fish will have to be measured and recorded for the reports. Which will lead to more dead fish. In the the long run it will lead to fees and additional taxes on tournaments and tournament fishing. Just the first step!

^ valid point.

Maybe they plan to implement some kind of bigger genetics breeder bass if they can remove a bunch of small bass.

Uh, no. Every tournament trail already does this. They record how many limits, average weight of fish, total fish caught and so on. No one is going to be up there weighing and measuring individual fish any different than what they already do. Right now it’s just a proposal anyway.

What’s the chatter on it with the Okie guys, are they in favor or don’t care either way?

It’s not going to change anything at all in tournaments. Probably not going to do much of anything, they can write more tickets to bank fishermen I suppose.

Uh no they don't!!! They do not weigh each fish or measure each fish that is brought in! Why would they be concerned about any of this if they didn't want to know the size of each fish? They don't care about the weight of a limit. It is actually being decided today! Careful I think I might know a little about this! And yes I am from OK!
