I've lost some faith in Toyota designed items. Their new-ish 9 speed transmission they run in their camry/corolla/rav4/highlander is borderline awful. My dad's Tundra that he traded for his Ram 1500 was the worst truck he ever owned. Furthermore, buying an SUV engine they put into a truck is a bad idea. I did that with my ecodiesel and it was a stressful deal because they had lots of luck with the motor in their european SUVs but trucks just use way more torque day in and day out than SUVs and it didn't go well. Lots of blown motors out there.
The new Ram 1500 with a Hemi is the best riding half ton with the best transmission and best infotainment system. Gets great mpg, very reliable, and is the most affordable to boot.

I agree, but still bought a new GMC truck. Time will tell if good choice or not!

I agree, but still bought a new GMC truck. Time will tell if good choice or not! GMC and Ford are a close 2nd these days. I think both were a ways behind 4-5 years ago but not anymore. My favorite truck I ever had was a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 regular cab stepside. Dad gave it to me so I could pass on my S-10 to my little brother, and that Sierra was a great truck for a very long time. One fuel pump and one window motor and we had bought it new and sold it with about 200k miles on it. Great truck, and the new ones ride really nice and run great also. Admittedly, I haven't been in a 2022 Tundra but for nearly 2 decades they've been outclassed by the entire market in almost every respect.

I got the new Tundra yesterday and I am really impressed with it. It's like everything has been improved but time will tell if it's everything they say it is. I will let you know.

They’re 10 years behind in putting out a truck with a twin turbo V6. My understanding is they’re not offering any sort of options for V8s now which makes no sense. Toyota is usually about a decade behind for and GM in the technology department and this is no different. I’ll be interested to see what the specs are because the tundra has been lagging in every performance category for the past 10 years as well.

There is no question that the Tundra is lagging in technology area....I have 2019 Tundra Limited. However, reliability is off the charts in comparison to other trucks I have had. I am looking to replace my Lexus RX with something able to tow my Ranger 185 Intercoastal. Looking at a Sequoia vs GX 460.....however both are not available without ordering. (NO INVENTORY)

I bought the first year for Tundra in 2000 and it was the best truck I ever owned. Not one trip to the shop until I turned it in on trade for a 2006. The first year issues just don’t seem to be a Toyota problem. The new engine is far from being new. Had 2000 too, great truck - 267k with just regular maintenance

I read that Toyota has beat General Motors in sales for 2021. I guess they were able get ahold of more chips. GM sold the most with 429,700 Ford 2nd at 362,000 Ram 3rd at 313,000 and Tundra 43,900

I think the key to the Tundras success will be gas mileage. They have to be competitive with the other brands. They are at least equal to or better than the rest in most every comparison, except gas mileage. I’ve had several Tundras and will buy a new one when I need a new truck, but I hope that it does get better mileage.
