I saw this video a long while back and hope you might find some interest in it. I use B&B, can't remember what kind. This guy posts some good stuff. If you email him, he actually will email you back.

You are correct; Kingsford makes briquettes. Some purists don’t like briquettes because they are made with not just wood, but also clay and other binders.
In general, lump will burn hotter, faster, and cleaner. I do like a base of briquettes for cooks below 300 degrees because they will last longer (burn slower) and temperature regulation is easier. Briquettes also generate more ash due to unburned clay and other binders.

Cowboy for me. My neighbor has a BGE and only uses BGE lump charcoal. I looked at the bag and it says 100% organic. Must be the reason for the higher price. I thought all lump charcoal was organic.
He is truly a sick individual.

I guess you can say lump is organic when there are non-organic material in briquettes. BGE coal is ok, but I find it is very much like Royal Oak and have been told BGEis RO under a BGE label.

Briquettes are VERY different than “lump.” I am very aware of the difference. That said I do like a base of briquettes sometimes before adding the B & B lump.... ...they call it a lump briquette but I have never seen or tried it

I got some lump charcoal in my Christmas stocking. Mrs RayBob says she couldn't find any coal.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

I wonder why you couldn’t crush up lump charcoal and run it through the pellet pooper?
