I've been fishing for whitebass for over 50+ years and the majority of my go too rod and reels have been spooled with 10# mono. I've caught and landed fish up to 20# over the years from Largemouth Buffalo that would cover the lid of a standard sized Igloo ice chest to stripped bass and hybrids. I'm guessing, but I probably caught the majority on an original Zebco 33. (which I still use to this day)

I use 4 lb. Test on my ultralight. And 6 lb. Test on my medium action rod. I try to go as small as possible when casting the river, and a little bigger when trolling. IMHO 10 lb. Test is the largest as I would go. Maybe even 8.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I tried 8 lb once, and it felt too stretchy for me.
