Yep we need winter. And lets be honest, Texas winter is not too bad by most peoples standards (last February notwithstanding)...
And I too will take a little cold in trade for some toads...

Went back to Whitney this morning and it was a literal blowout, water was almost 4 degrees warmer than last week, and zero action. I didn't even see the two guide boats we were watching catch a fish. We could find them, but they weren't feeding.
And I even found a cove with literally millions of shad, they were actively flipping on top too, like spring or early fall. Really odd thing was, we've had a prevailing Southerly breeze for the last few days, and these shad were against a Northern blown bank. Guess even those guys were in on the joke of hiding.

I been fishing my spring spots since October, mostly 4-16' with some success.Usually by this time of year I'm fishing 30+ ft holes.Bait is usually a little tougher by now but last Thursday I made 2 tosses from the bank in about 10' of water and released close to half of it.I could fished for 3 days with the bait produced on that second toss. This spot usually only holds big numbers of shad late March thru early May.........and it is loaded right now.

Given the crazy warm weather I tried throwing my net on some boat ramps today (leeward and windward), and nothing, nada.
Lavon was blowing pretty good today, and the creeks were white capping in light brown murky dirty water. I have no idea if that's good or bad, but it sure weren't pretty - lol!

I was determined to get bait yesterday so El Gato and I had plenty for our trip to Twok. Let just say the wind had different ideas... Found some bait up in glass house cove threw on 'em and snagged my net. Didn't get it back. It was my old stumpy net, the one I throw when there is a chance I won't get it back so... I moved on. Deeper water another wind blown point. Started drifting across it and throwing. Started picking up a few, mostly small ones and then... snag! [censored]! twice in one day! I motored back to the opposite side and got it back. whew... a few throws later same thing. Got it back again but this time it was ripped to shreds. Headed back to the marina and sat down for about 90 minutes of net mending. Got it mostly fixed. Need to replace the brail lines though. They are all different lengths and tied back together... Anyway, I started throwing it to make sure I still could and there was bait in the marina. Some good bait. I ended up with a full gallon bag with some big shad and some big bream. Gonna go toad hunting this week!

What boat bud? I was out too, mid lake to around plowman. Like you, found plenty, but only found. Ended up catching striper into the afternoon.

We put in at McCown Valley, and were mostly near Cedron, and up past the bridge. That cove past the marina, behind the little island, was stacked full of shad.....millions of them. Saw two old guys out there in a jon wearing shorts and Tshirts....hardcore man. We left about 11:30
