Best catfishing in the state at gibbons when the plant was running in winter. Pull up to any tree with birds and flip 65lb braid with slip cork and cut shad/tilapia about 2ft down. There's nothing like a 30-50lb blue cat on a flipping stick in trees.

Does a lot for TP&W's campaign to get more people fishing. We are losing a lot of fishing water. Three lakes here in my area.

This chaps my tail. Our money paid to stock these lakes but now we can't access them. That's bull.
I can backlash toilet paper.

TPW should be reimbursed for the cost of the fish stocked. If not, empty the lake into the creek/river that was dammed & let it refill on its own.

Van City Lake Mountain Creek Monti Squaw Dunlap, Placid, Gonzales, Meadow Bachman will be closed for dredging soon I'm sure there are others.

The best bass fishing video I have ever seen showed Jimmy and Chris Houston fishing Gibbons in the late 80s or 90s. They were throwing spinnerbaits in the timber and plenty of vicious strikes were caught on camera.

Can TP&W not recoup the cost of stocking from these lakes that close access to the public? Something doesn't seem right here, I completely understand private ownership & all that, but I paid for those fish I cannot catch anymore so the State should be reimbursed, imo. elected officials and people who hold positions in state government are often allowed to fish the "closed" waters

"Van City Lake" as in Lake Pure Oil? Man if so, that was one awesome little lake back in the day before the dam broke

This is like losing a close friend! They sure are keeping it quiet. I don't find anything about it, other than here or on Crappie Guides facebook page. I guess I'll see y'all out there, tomorrow!

Moving forward no privately owned lake or a lake subject possible to private ownership should get any TP&W/ state resources unless there is a guarantee of public access that cannot be revoked.

Our local newspaper in Longview had an article a few weeks ago that the Pikey Power plant on Brandy Branch Reservoir will be closing in 2023. I am hoping the lake stays open. The controlling authority is American Electric Power. It is less than 25 minutes away and sure would hate to loose it.
