That is a bad deal. What surprised me was all of the acquisitions between 2013 and 2017. I'm wondering if one of those acquisitions either yielded more debt than they thought they were purchasing and that depleted their cash or the acquisition was a bust but they tried to save it by throwing good money after bad. I also wonder if they outsourced their IT and call center to "another country". That's one of several things company's tend to do when they realize they are sinking. Go on the cheap to save a buck.

Hate to see any business fail especially one 96 years old. Makes you wonder what went wrong.

They were the go to freight line when I first started my career in the metals business. Sorry to hear of their failure after all these years.

trucking is tough in the best of conditions. They are usually low profit business that have to be watched closely. We just shut down the country for about 18 months due to the great hoax. Their business like everyone else was down. that hurts low margin companies worst because they don't have the big cash flow to get through these times. I am only surprised by there are not more going out of business and there probably will be. You can't just shut down our economy and think it won't put companies out of business. You pay people to stay home they are not looking for jobs so freight isn't being manufactured so no need for short route trucking.

I guess we can fix all of these with new mandates to shut things down, mask, and lets pay them 6000.00 a month to stay home this time.

The great hoax to change us to socialism.

My dad retired from the trucking business years ago. Back then you had Consolidated Freight, Roadway, Yellow Freight lines as the huge lines running the roads. Now it is just Yellow doing it. They did buy out Roadway to save the employees or some of them from losing jobs.
Dad retired with a nice retirement pension fro the Teamsters union, but what those that are retiring today is about half of what he brings in a month.
Dad was with the 11th largest truck line in the country when they called him over his radio and told him to bring his truck in, they were closing the doors. He walked into the office went to his personal files and got his folder and went to Yellow Freight Line to complete his years for a full retirement. This was back in the late 80's. He was a city driver that deliver the freight in and around Atlanta, so he was home every night.

With the astronomical prices of used equipment right now and companies struggling to find drivers, a lot of companies are considering closing operations and selling their equipment. At least, the companies I deal with are.

2012 53' dry vans are selling for $50,000... I sold decked-out brand new ones, 3 years ago, for $35k-$40k...

Unreal. I still remember my days working at a Houston steel distributorship. Same guy driving the Central truck came by every day.

Yep. I worked for a company that eventually ended up as part of Ryerson and Central was our most dependable, competitive carrier. Their salesman brought some nice Christmas cheer around about this time.

My dad (RIP) was transferred from Salinas Ca. to Reno Nv. when Pacific Motor Trucking closed it's doors. He drove for CF out of Reno, running to Salt Lake and Sacramento. After a massive heart attack plus four more small ones, plus a stroke, plus triple bypass we had to pull his license. My dad drove all his life and logged over 2 million miles with CF without an accident or a ticket. God rest his soul!!
