Hello to the Forum Family.
It's been quiet from us lately due to what we have been dealing with on the home front. Last time I fished was with Slewfoot on July 20th with my boys. Haven't touched a fishing rod since then.
My Dad has been dealing with Gnash which is non drinkers cirrhosis of the liver.
He is in End Stage Liver Disease. To top it off his left leg buckled on the morning of November 10th and he fell backwards and cracked his head open on the kitchen floor. When he got to the hospital they took a CT Scan of his head and he had a brain bleed and was Care Flighted to a Trauma Center. Due to the Liver Disease his blood platelets are very low and you need those to clot the bleeds. He needed two platelet transfusions. Luckily the bleed stopped after 3 days. He eventually ended up at UTSW by Parkland in Dallas. Most hospital systems refuse transplants on anyone 70 or older. UTSW bases it on the individual. My Dad is 74 about to turn 75. They finally got him medically stable after 3 weeks. He passed all the transplant tests. But he is extremely weak from the fall and needs to build up his strength before they will seriously consider doing a transplant on him. The oldest individual they have ever done a transplant on is 78 and he is 82 today and doing great. We transferred him home 2 days ago and we are hiring a physical therapist to come work with him daily. His goal is to be able to walk from the valet point at UTSW on January 11th up to the doctors office on the 9th floor. He can use a walker but not a wheel chair. If he does that they will seriously consider him for a transplant. They are going to do a Living Donor Transplant. Did you know you don't have to be related to someone to donate a piece of your liver? I had no idea. It's based on blood type and will the liver fit that is all. We have 3 possible donors myself, my sister, and a family friend so far. If they find a good match they take 60-70% of the living donor liver and put it in my dad. In 6 weeks both my dad and the donor will have a 100% liver. I mean who knew this was possible. The donor will be out of the hospital in 5-7 days. I think the only restriction is no lifting anything for 8-9 weeks. If my Dad can't pull this off by January 11th then his hopes for a transplant will fade. We pray every day and we are going to do everything in our power between now and then to make this happen for him. Hopefully we can get some help from the man upstairs as well.
I tell him everyday we got more fish to catch. This is a brutal disease and I know it's how Blue Nitro lost his father.
I just wanted to keep anyone who might have been wondering where we have been...we have been at the hospital 24/7 trying to get him across the finish line.
Thanks for letting me post. God Bless.
If anyone would like to send words of encouragement to him:
Bruce Schmidt 2017 Boone Circle Frisco, Texas 75033
We will take all the help we can get from anyone and anywhere.

Hey Glenn, really hoping Dutch pulls through. I know he would rather be out on the lake jerking crappie with you. I tried to call a few minutes ago so when you can, give me or Randy a call. I am just finishing my Livescope install and we've been sinking trees trying to get ready for prespawn. I've been doing some catfishing as well. You can tell Dutch we caught a 41 lb blue cat on rod & reel this past Wednesday. That was pretty cool. We were in a Bass Tracker in rough water. The fish owned the boat for a few minutes. Take care buddy, Asa
