You have any spots on the fort worth side of the Trinity? I just moved to this area permanently and have no clue about fishing the Trinity in Tarrant County as I have just explored some local ponds and lakes. I know there are consumption bans in this area but not sure about the fishing potential or any decent locations.

"There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home."

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day."

I don't know many spots in particular, but it is loaded up with fish. In the summer, many species congregate near spillways to get extra oxygen. I've caught largemouth, white bass, carp, buffalo, drum, and channel cat out of there.

I think Starless is awful close to being as fond of the Elm Fork as I am! It is an amazing fishery with a tremendous amount and variety of fish in it! AND, it is basically underfished, mainly because of limited access as a whole.

But by gosh a little work to get to it can sure be rewarding!!

My favorite!

Bret's big fish is a Freshwater Drum, yes. Sometimes referred to as a Gaspergoo.

And yes, I have caught carp on roadrunners, though there are no carp pictured in this thread. That's a Smallmouth Buffalo.

Carp and buffalo hit roadrunners because they eat shad. Lol. Carp, and buffalo, are much like catfish in that they will eat whatever they can catch.

Most of the time, carp prefer to eat things like freshwater mussels, snails, insect larvae, nightcrawlers, and anything sweet.

But if they can catch a minnow, or a shad, they are very glad to do so!

Especially in rivers, where carp and buffalo are both attuned to injured baitfish getting knocked downstream by the current, and they are quick to snatch them up.

Hello everyone! I just moved to the texas from colorado and now live in houston. I have been searching for a relatively remote place to fish that is within a distance for a solid day trip and has good action. This multi-species fishing sounds awesome. It seems like you guys have been fishing the Trinity River around Dallas, but do you know if the river is still 'fishable' closer to Houston? If not do you have any recommendations for me? Any advice would be much appreciated. Keep up the catching.

Whys, I'd love to help you, but I can't. I've never fished in Houston at all lol. But if you're up in the DFW area sometime I can probably put you on some fish.

Hopefully someone can help you out!

Man Justin, you're killing them. I'd love you join you some time out there!

CCabal, yeah, just cause the multi-species contest is over is no reason not to head back there lol.

And next month the Roadrunner competition will be going on.

I hit it 1-4+ times a month, and you'd be welcome to join me there any time!
