I guess those that said they were not going for just 3 fish actually stayed home. The parking lot at Hughes Crossing was pretty light on cars.

Managed to catch 4 channel cats - leftovers from the summer stocking I'm guessing. Didn't catch any trout..

Not made it yet. Hope to go this month and give it a try.

Wow catfish but no trout. Bummer.

Pond Fishing Practice for the Blue River | Near Deere, Rainbow Warrior, and OPST Commando Head

Halloween Day last weekend. Was not able to fish the Blue River in Oklahoma but did take the opportunity to practice fishing using the same setup I would use on the Blue River.

Do give it a try... especially liking the One Handed Spey setup: Redington Classic Trout 9ft 5wt, Echo Ion 4/5wt reel, and the OPST Commando Head with Lazarline Running Line!

Pat's Near Deere worked well, do check back for the full video of the trip. Till then, this YouTube Shorts shows the first trout of the season for yours truly!

Last Sunday's trip to the Blue; still working on the video but here is a streamed preview. Fun times! The Carey Olive Near Deere and Pat's Rubber Leg variant - aka Pat's Near Deere worked well in limiting out that trip! Hope to be back again sooner than later.

Blue River Oklahoma Fishing | First Trout Limit for 2021-2022 Season!

First trip to the Blue River in Oklahoma for the 2021-2022 Trout Season. Able to limit out using a variation of the Pat's Rubber Leg and Olive Near Deere aka Pat's Near Deere.

Trout were readily striking the Pat's Near Deere set 4ft under a strike indicator. Later, made adjustments to set the indicator to 2-3ft as well as removing the strike indicator.

With the indicator removed, use varying retrieves such as a stop and go retrieve and another with a longer pause between pulls of the fly line.

Was using a 220 grain OPST Commando Head with a floating tip, so at times used the floating tip as a strike indicator when fishing!

Do check out the video; longer than normal video. Wanted to show more of the presentations and other useful info that may help others this season when fishing the Blue!

Another Winter trout stocking season is fast approaching! Like in past seasons, yours truly modified the schedule posted by TPWD to sort by Stocking Date and the count of trout stockings planned for a location and its estimated trout to be stocked.

Makes for ease of reference by allowing Readers to quickly see when the next trout stocking is planned. As changes are unexpected for various reasons like weather, do check for updates, changes, and corrections at TPWD's website - 2020-2021 TPWD Trout Stocking Schedule.

See pdf of the sorted schedule... Fun with Spreadsheets | Texas Parks and Wildlife Winter Trout Stocking Schedule for 2021-2022

Fly Fishing Stop and Go Retrieve Demo #shorts

YouTube Shorts video that shows the retrieve we used when the trout stopped biting. We started with a strike indicator with a Pat's Near Deere set 3-4 feet from the indicator. Using a dead drift, the trout were readily striking that morning. But, as the day progressed, the trout stopped biting.

Trying different retrieves, finally found a Stop and Go Retrieve without a strike indicator worked. Trout wanted movement, striking the fishing fly as it hesitated on the stop.

Do check it out, and do check out the full video of the trip, too!

Blue River Fishing Tips | Suggestions To Keep In Mind | #blueriverok

This round we answer the mail concerning suggestions for fishing the Blue River, Oklahoma...

Specifically, we talk about the walking stick, landing net and modifications to it, and then the fishing flies we used to get our first trout and first limit this season.

Plus we added snippets of the YouTube Shorts - Stop and Go Retrieve, that showed the Stop and Go Retrieve, as well as some recent pictures others posted of some nice trout caught on the Blue!

See the video of that trip... First Limit of the Season!

Check it out and keep the suggestions in mind next trip!

Blue River Fishing Tips | What Worked For Me This Round #blueriverok #oklahomatroutfishing

Hoped to catch one of the Bruiser trout that are stocked for the Trout Derby on the Blue River. Did not catch a Bruiser but still managed three that went 12" - 14" in size, making for a nice dinner!

After scouting the upriver from Hughes Crossing, went back to Hughes Crossing and fished just upriver of the low water crossing. Tried the same fishing fly and presentation as I did on an earlier trip.

Pattern this round...
Pat's Near Deere on dead drift with a twitch now and then as well as a Stop and Go Retrieve. Same applied to a Pat's Rubber Leg.

Fishing an Olive Near Deere and a Guadalupana, trout wanted a fast retrieve with rapid short pulls. While a Pink Near Deere was a no go!

Do check out the video!

Live stream update from the Team! Fished the Blue River in Oklahoma this morning. Caught two and kept for dinner, caught and released others but called the trip short when I gotta dunking this round.

Thought I broke my GoPro Hero 5 but after drying it out, it works again... lav mic and the battery was done for though. Did pick up a Hero 8 on sale at Best Buy... good excuse to get another camera.

Did stop at Scotty's One Stop and picked up Producers, White Pat's Rubber Legs, and a Midge that looked promising. This round the Producer and the White Pat's Rubber Leg and an olive one, too worked.

Key this round... dead drift, no movement... just keep the same speed as the bubbles! Do check back for the full video of today's trip.
