That place was kind of decrepit the last time I was there in 1989.

During the summer months my brother and I spent almost every day on the barge fishing, goofing off, eating my Mom's hamburgers, and just enjoying ourselves. Far to many stories to put in this post but a great time when you're 11-12 years old.

Did it have a neon sign on top of it ?

It is a shame that there are not more fishing barges on the various lakes. I would imagine that a Lewisville style barge would be epic on Fork. It would make for easy fishing for a lot of us non boaters.

Well. You’re really limited to what you fish on a barge. The Lewisville barge had three indoor “tanks” and a really nice outdoor area to fish.

But….if they ain’t biting at the barge, you ain’t moving around the lake looking for them.

Great memories fishing off fishing barge at Lake Stamford many years ago. It had the indoor fishing as well, Cowboy games on the TV inside and heater blasting during the winter months. I'll bet the place in Lewisville gets back in compliance quick unless it has something to do with structural problems.

I seem to remember a white sign with red letters and I believe it read “FISH-O-RAMA”

Lewisville Fishing Barge shut down to address safety concerns

Some of the areas that will need tending to include the fishing barge’s electrical work, decking and floatation foam, Kunke said. Once these concerns have been addressed, and the city and Corps of Engineers deems the barge up to code, it will be able to reopen to the public.

“We notified them and gave them a list of the items that needed to be addressed,” Kunke said. “So they're aware of those [concerns] and we are hopeful they'll be able to get those remedied and be able to reopen.”

Kunke said the city has always intended for the lake to have a fishing barge–it is included in the Lake Park Master Plan.

“You just don’t want anybody going out there and having an enjoyable time with their families fishing and having a preventable accident happen,” Kunke said. “It needs to be a safe and enjoyable environment, and the management agrees.”

Been intending to take my boys there for a while, but we just haven't been able to make it happen. What a shame.

Anyone know if owners' have the intention to make repairs, or is it gone?

That's good to hear. Walked over there last night, and it was so eerie and surreal to see the parking lot gate closed & locked, and all the lights off. I've never seen all the lights off in that place except when there's a blackout in the area.

Hope it reopens soon.

The place has been dead to me since they shut down the docks and the grill. Fishing on that lake was so much better when you could pull up the barge and eat a good hamburger. The last time I pulled up the manger told us they didn't want our money. The boaters destroy the docks and aren't worth the trouble. Seems crazy, but they shut down boat traffic.
