Costas, rods and reels, tackle, pliers, was taking a whiz and even had a beeper back in the day go flying into the water when I went to pull my britches back together to button the top button.
See you on the lake and have a great day!

I think I am at 5 rod and reel combos going in unrecoverable since I started boat fishing in 2012.

Lost an iPhone when I was in waders salmon fishing and didn’t realize the dam had been releasing water and the water level had gone up. I probably had too many beers as well. Went in the drink trying to get back to shore. I had caught a bunch of salmon when almost everyone else on the river was skunked. I had been trash talking them all pretty heavily. About a hundred guys broke into spontaneous applause when I went in.
Lost a second iPhone musky fishing in Wisconsin, dropped the phone and it made a perfect bounce over the edge. .
Recently lost a 300 dollar pair of sunglasses. Wife and I had doubled up and I was trying to help her. Plop.

Wedding ring while wade fishing Matagorda Bay
$1,200 worth of rods and reels in Navarro Mills. That boat didn't have rod straps on the front deck. My brother asked me if he needed to sit up there and hold them down. I said "nah, they've never moved before". About 2 waves later, they bounced over the gunnel.

$800 pair of prescription glasses and a wallet with all my ID, cards and an undisclosed amount of cash. Had laid them on the passenger seat while I went in for a swim. Forgot about it and made a 70 mph blast across the lake, got back to the ramp and had an oh [censored]! moment.

Surprised someone hasn't said their boat. Actually, I had the coast guard capsize my boat under tow. I lost 17 rods and reels, tackle boxes, boat equipment, depth finder, GPS, my wife and my phone, wallet with credit cards and drivers license, etc. They cut the boat off and said it was salvage and they would not pay for the loss because they were carrying out their duty. The equipment not covered by insurance was over $20,000. Not a great day. So, feel a little better about the phone. …wife went down with the ship too? Actually, we were both on the boat when it capsized. When I realized we were flipping, I grabbed my wife by the live jacket and pushed off the boat so we did not get trapped under it since we were under tow. Stuff can be replaced, I grabbed what was important.

RX glasses into Texoma & Fork, wedding ring into Monticello. I remember the Fork loss, it was when the lake was new, you did try to swim for a while on the roadbed but couldn't find them. .: Don't recall if I was on the trip for the others
Slide right, coming in .... Fish On!

First time on the water with my new Talons and lost one, bracket and all at the mouth of Dale creek. Good to hear I'm not the only one--I still like to get reminded by the guys in my club about this story: Fishing Lake Waco a few years back. Hang a jig on a stump/tree, so nose in with trolling motor to get it unhung. Didn't want to destroy my TM prop trying to back out of the tree, so I tried pushing off of it manually. Wouldn't you know the dead wood collapsed and I go head over heels into the water. Brand new iPhone in my pocket. Gets fried and could not be revived. Later in the day, I'm running full speed in the open area of the lake. I hear a noise towards the back of the boat and turn around just in time to watch my 3 month old Talon fly off the bracketing, up into the air about 10 feet, then sink to the bottom of Lake Waco in 35 feet of water. By far my most expensive day on the water.

Talking with a buddy on the phone while throwing a buzzbait on GV. Had an explosion, set the hook and my shoulder that was holding phone to my ear went down and phone dropped on deck and did a 2 1/2 gainer off the front deck right into the lake. Eery feeling not having a phone while I idled back to the ramp. Bad thing was the fish weighed maybe a pound soaking wet.

Not a lake, but about 40 years ago, I lost a one-month old Mariner 15 outboard off the stern rail of my sailboat, one mile off St. John, USVI, in 90 feet of water at night. Bye bye! Needless to say, since then, every outboard has a safety line. Recently, I lost my 20-year-old Maui Jim sunglasses kayak fishing in Copano Bay. My Croakies came off. I didn't know they were gone until I was back at the launch. Didn't even get to hear or see the ker-plunk! Over the decades, I've lost lots of things to Davey Jones, but mostly inexpensive stuff.
