Attached pics are of one grip on one Shimano Power R Grip II reel handle. The other grip is like new. I noticed last time at the lake that a couple handles on other Shimano reels feel a little sticky but none have deteriorated like this one. I thought maybe a reaction to sunscreen but it should not just effect one knob.
I have not been able to find replacement parts other than one place that wants $79.95 for a new handle. Are there any generic handles for less?

Academy has handles cheaper. Carbon fiber with 4 bearings and EVA knobs. Not too expensive.
