There are multiple variants of the fruit cake:
Christmas pudding, mince pies, spotted dick, bread pudding with lots of candied fruit in there, fruit tarts, banana bread.

I get one from Collin St. every year. Love'em! Of all the homemade vs Collins St. I have had The Collins St. is only one I will eat. Collin Street sells so many fruitcakes they didn’t even miss someone embezzling $17,000,000.00. Big money in shipping fruitcake all over the world.

My grandma used to make a cake with fruit in it but it was fermented for 90 days I believe. Still the best cake I’ve ever had.

I love it. Mom made it every year. After I got married we used to go over to my moms to make fruit cake then we started to make it at our house but have not made it for a few years. It just takes too much time to mix and back. I am going to try some HEB brand this year.

Won't say I love em' but a long time ago a customer gave me one while I was drinking a cup of coffee and sorta hinted they were good with coffee... Not being a fan at the time I said I'd try it later... He gave me the hurt puppy dog eyes so I thought what the heck... It was great and have been hooked ever since... Dan

In the 70s I was a district manager for a chain of drug stores headquartered in Dallas. We had a buyer that would buy about 2 dozen tins for each store (we had over 100). After Christmas we would try to sell the leftovers for 50% off. A week later we would gather them all up and sell them to a farmer in East Texas for 50 cents each. We had over half of the original number still left.
The farmer fed them to his pigs. Pig food seemed about right to me.
