Sunday was supposed to be very windy. I launched at 6:45am at 2 mile and it really wasn’t bad. I fished the east side of the lake last weekend and found plenty of top water action. With the wind coming from the south I figured my best bet was the main hump on the west side of the lake. Apparently everyone else had the same idea, including the guides. Guide Noel with Tawakoni Guide service is a very cool guy if you happen to be fishing around him. The top water action was insane for about 2 hours. Kept the trolling motor running the whole time but it’s fun to chase the splashing. There were only 8 boats chasing but the schools were big and spread out. Plenty of room and fish for everyone. Wind picked up by 9:30. Checked finger point and caught a few on Mepps lures. I had caught plenty of fish and just didn’t feel the need to be out in the wind. Off the water by 11. Awesome day!

I do structure fishing but always enjoy top-water action when I come upon it. I just don't see it that often at Tawakoni or Cedar Creek. Thanks for your report - I know to watch for schooling fish on top.

Good to know Steven. You mentioned top water early morning to me a few times we met at the ramp. I usually start late morning and haven't seen birds working since May. But structure fishing have been so good so I didn't miss chasing the birds much lol.

I plan to put my boat in Texoma in November for couple months and that's where I need bird actions and had better success chasing birds. I even invested a good binocs for it. Lol

Top water has been an every day thing early mornings when I go. As soon as the sun gets up though they go down. Then I go back to regular structure spots. Really have been practicing the Mepps method. I love it! Here lately the 1oz slab has been producing pretty good as well. The Mepps is hard to beat on shallow structure fish.

Todd- good luck on texoma. I’ve fished it once and really enjoyed the big striper that come up under those birds.
