With the summer lull that Somerville has during these pst few hot and humid months; we've been hitting Lake Whitney hard and steadily on the Stripers. I’m looking for a boatless veteran that would be interested on this type of trip that normally/regularly fishes Somerville and hasn’t filled their freezer this year.
If this fits you and interested - please pm me. From one veteran to another - let’s enjoy a day out catchin not fishin 😁😉😉

Crappie bite is slowly picking up for this fall.
We found more than a livewell worth in 8-12FOW on brush piles. For all you yakers- Yegua SP bulkhead is lined with brush. Hard to miss on electronics. Minnows or 1/16oz head tipped with Bobby Garland Elec Chicken has been key.
Hybrids were out in force Sun morning. They were schooling off the rock point at Rocky SP. E of the boat ramp/dock between there and Yegua SP.
Lots of boats out this weekend on the humps trolling - never caught a report from any of them…
See ya on the water 🤙🏻

Lake Level is 238.13 ft. I checked on the creeks Sunday. The creeks were up about 6 to 12 inches. The gate to Newman Bottom was closed for some reason. Maybe we will get a few crappie up in the creeks. And lets hope for a heavy rain in December to kick off the white bass run. I've still been hitting the spillway in the evenings. Hoping to catch Gus. He that keeps showing up about 7 PM every night and has broken me off twice

Last year was a bust for crappie in the creeks. I'm hoping this year is better. I'll probably be headed that way sometime next month.

I went to Newman Bottom Sunday morning. The gate was open. I talked to a fishing buddy who fishes down there regularly. He said the park had closed the gate the week before due to the recent rain. He said they have been catching lots of catfish about a half mile below the low water crossing. I haven't heard any reports on crappie until Greenyak posted some being caught.
I checked on Irwin. There were a couple guys fishing for catfish and one person trying for crappie but he had only caught one crappie. I tried fly fishing in both locations but didn't catch anything except a few small native bluegill. The water looked good at Newman Bottom but was muddied up a bit at Irwin due to the rain during the night. The water levels were back to normal. The lake is still 0.1 foot above normal.
I have seen some catfish being caught on the lake side of the spillway as well. It seems the catfish bite is going strong.
The fishing in the spillway picked up after the cold front. The white bass bunched up in the deeper spots. I caught 38 that first day after the cold front and it has dwindled down each day again. I've only caught a couple hybrids and a couple stripper in the last 2 weeks.

Just to clarify this is a "striper" ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/10/full-2652-115567-striper.jpg) And these are Strippers ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/10/full-2652-115568-cartoon_strippers.jpg) J-Moe is doing a lot more with the Fly rod than we knew... you are welcome...
