Fall 2021 is knocking at the door here in East Central Florida, the mullet bait fish run has started, schools of swimming bait will be moving south down the coast along the beach and some of these schools will be coming down the intracoastal waterway into my backcountry area at New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. Inshore game fish will be on swimming south also, eating the mullet as they go, schools of fun surface game fish like Jack Crevalle, Bluefish and Ladyfish hit the mullet on top, making for easy to see surface activity to cast lure or bait into for a fast hookup and drag pull. These fish are migrating south down the coast in fall after summering up north, they will winter in south Florida. Our resident fish which are here year round will be feeding on mullet and shrimp also, Snook, Seatrout, Black Drum, Whiting, Redfish, just some of the other usual catches in the Mosquito Lagoon backcountry. Eva from Tennessee caught a nice Black Drum out on a recent trip along with other fish of varying species…………..
