I would like some recommendations for a rod for deep cranking. I know I need a more moderate tip. What I am looking for is a make/model/length recommendation from someone who has had experience with the particular rod you are recommending. I find my hook-ups are not as solid as they should be with what I am using. Too many thrown baits at or near the boat. I think my rod is partly to blame.

I want something $200 or under, please.

Thanks!

Try Phenix rods. I think their rods are $189.

Dobyns Champion 805 is very versatile. Anything in the Champion line for cranking rods with the 5 power are great rods, the actions are perfect imo

I know they're a little over your price range but the St. Croix Legend Glass cranking rods are the best cranking rods I've ever used. Lighter than anything else out there for sure and they have a more moderate action like you mentioned.

Thats my money fish

LOVE Phenix. Best bang for your buck rods out there. Slowly transitioning most of my rods to Phenix......

Now with that being said, I like them for anything thats a non moving bait. moving baits....anything by powell that is meant for cranking (and likely glass composite) is what I would recommend. I feel like powell has the reaction bait rods on lock when it comes to best bang for your buck.

Just my opinion though....Phenix is straight fire too!!!

Lews David Fritts crankbait rod - $70 or $80, not the best but maybe best bang for your buck.

I would take a hard look at the Powell 7'11" or 7'5" CB. I really think that their cranking rods are some of the best out there.

How deep are you talking about? I have a Dobyns Champion 805 that I would sell for $175. I have been using FXtreme rods for all my moving baits.

The best cranking rod I’ve found is the Reel Time Rods (Located on Lake Fork) CB78 10-20, It is 7’8” of power….. I have been using the rod for a little over 6-8 months and have caught numerous large fish on it with no issues….. throws small and big plugs very well! It’s $169

Powell rods are what I use exclusively for deep cranking.

For 5xd & 6xds I recommend the ALX Zolo Grind. Sold my Dobyns 805 when I used that rod. Better action, lighter, and more parabolic for a graphite cranking rod.

Haven't tried the Zolo grind, but I love the ALX rods that I own!
