What weight and brand braided line do you guys use for small to medium sized inshore fishing ? Thinking about 15 lb suffix 832 this year

I used 20# power pro on all the spinning rods. I use mono on casting rods.
Spinning rods get the jig/plastics, casting gets topwater/spoons, just like mono better for those.

Ditto what Mr. Goff said, 20lbs Power Pro.

I throw 20 lb braid on both spinning and baitcaster but do use a about a 3-5' 20 lb. mono leader especially when throwing most lures. I've used Power Pro for years but IMO there is better braid out there. I bought some KastKing braid and put it on 2 baitcasters and actually like it better than Power Pro. I've also used 832 and it's good too.

You'll have less issues especially on a spinner if you go with 30 lb braid but you will lose some casting distance. 20 is plenty for inshore though.

Braided is pretty much more expensive than some good fluro carbon/ mono. For you guys that use stuff like Power Pro, most likely you fill that spool completely up...right? When you put on your lure or what ever your throwing, how many feet of line (approx.) comes off your spool? You may just encounter a run and that fish will take a little more off your spool. With that in mind, how many feet of line is used up? How much braid is left on your spool? I'd say a lot. Would you save some money and braid if you spool up with fluro/mono and then splice what you think you'll NEED of braid. People have done that and if you have done that, chime in and tell us how it worked. Pro's and con's.

I've used both braid and mono as a backer. I prefer to use older braid that's been on the bottom of the spool as a backer and tie new braid to it with a modified surgeons knot. This is of course when I'm spooling on braid.

You can also reverse the braid and extend the life of it. I don't do this because it's an extra step involved that takes some time and braid lasts a long time anyway. I have 2 spinning reels that have 3 year old braid on them and one of those reels caught a limit of reds about a month ago. Braid just lasts a long time.

15# Suffix 832 for me with a 5’-6’ 20# mono or fluoro leader, connected with an improved Albright knot. I used to use Power Pro. It I think Suffix holds up better. I put some electrical tape on the spool and fill with braid. Don’t like the extra knot on the spool with mono backing. I use 2500 Stradic and ballistic reels so not that expensive to fill. The braid lasts a long time too.

PowerPro or Wind Tamer. 20-30 pound test.

Notes:
I wrap a decent amount of electrical tape around the spool, so use about 2/3 the amount of line. I hate knots in my line, so don't do that anymore, it'll cause huge line snots.

Nobody has yet to show me using a leader has ever made a difference to the fish. I might consider if I get a proper whopping but that has yet to happen.

But fishing is a game of confidence, if you are confident in what you're doing, then it'll work. If you're not, it won't.

30# Suffix 832 for baitcaster. 20# for spinning Rod.

30 or 40 pound Sufix, not the super slick stuff, though. Braid is so fine in diameter compared to nylon monofilament or equal break strength so even with 40# braid, a lot will fit on most low profile baitcasting reels. I fish around reef quite a bit so a little extra diameter and pound test seems appropriate for when a big redfish gets up in or over some shell. I like having a fluorocarbon leader with braid.

15-20# braid is so fine, it can be a bit of an issue for me to work with, but to each his own. I’m sure casting for distance, finer diameter braid will outpace the thicker material, all other things being equal. We certainly don’t all fish the same way on the same water. We don’t all have the same eyesight and finger dexterity. My fishing buddies mostly use nylon monofilament like trilene on their Curados and Chronarchs. Works for them. The people I fish with are primarily walk the dog topwater or paddle/rat tail on light jig head types of fisherman., 1/16 or 1/8 ounce jig heads, that’s what we like. Sometimes, someone will toss a suspending plug. We all fish from boats or kayaks more than we tend to wade, but there’s some wade fishing being done for sure. No one I regularly fish with, including myself, enjoys rattling/popping cork fishing. Seems like that’s made for spinning tackle. What little rattling cork fishing I have done was done better in my limited experience with a spinning setup. Nothing wrong with fishing with popping corks, it’s simply about what people enjoy. What you enjoy might ought to dictate your tackle selection should be.

So you can skin this cat in a number of ways and get it done. Lighter braid, you likely gain distance and line capacity, but might have issues with knots and handling depending on how good your fingers and close in eyesight works. Spinning reels likely have their own set of needs and sweet spots. I’ve barely fished with spinning rigs as compared to the decades of baitcasting/lure fishing and eight years or so of using fly tackle frequently. Some people are masters of the spinning set ups, I never really caught on to them or found them much fun to fish with. Good thing we get choices.

I too use 20# power pro, high vis yellow cause I can't see chit. I have tied directly and have used leaders. Most of the time I use 20# big game mono as a leader and the main reason is if your fishing around structure, it's mush easier to break off than straight braid.

Salt Strong suggested that. Not a bad idea but i have never done it.

Wind Tamer is also a good braid.

I throw spiderwire Ultra cast 40 or 50. Ive been very happy with it
