Many years back I saw a rod and reel combo on the hiway and stopped for it an old beat up spinning reel, rod and the worst looking lure I ever saw an old big bomber white with silver glitter, later that day, (lure had been ran over and bill bent not much finish left on it). I went to feed my horses and noticed fish active in the stock tank, all I had was the mentioned combo and bait I I tried to get it working and did and hour later or so I had 5 fish 4-4-6-8-8 black bass all on this combo, I called my dad and he took off work to join me he also caught well but not the size I did, I finally lost the lure later that day but a day catching I will never forget and I don't bass fish any. I still fish this tank and have got a few good ones since but none like that day, the avg now is about 3#, the new bait for the tank is my old no paint Hot Spot, usually in the evenings there 4-5 fish and walk back home from it. Many years ago when we bought the property one day looking at fences I had my rod with me and my 1st cast there got a #5 bass, the tank is very remote behind 2 locked pastures and not seen from the road WITH HORRIBLE chiggers all around it. The tank is about 20' in one place and now has lots of moss in it making fishing miserable.
A floating Hot Spot did work well though as topwater baits also do.
