Pond Fishing Quick Trip aka Grocery Shopping?Running errands to the local grocery store that happens to have a small pond. As luck would have it, had the 5wt Redington Classic Trout rod, Echo Ion reel, and OPST Commando Head in the pickup... wonder who put it there? LOL! Foam Grasshopper did well again with a several Bluegill and a Bass caught and released before I went to the grocery store.

Was in the Hill Country this past weekend. Fun times but not there to fish. But, did get a chance to wet a line in a tiny creek with the telescoping micro fly rod!

YouTube Shorts video of yours truly showing how I work a Near Deere set four feet under a strike indicator. Working at a slight angle upstream, I drift the Near Deere at the same speed to match the bubbles drifting downriver. This video was taken on the Blue River several seasons ago near the "Island" downriver from Hughes Crossing. Was a fun trip, even limited out!

The John Deere is a simple fishing fly pattern that uses chenille, a jig fly hook, and a marabou plume. The hook size is small – size 10 thru 14, and the plume can be cut to different lengths to match the “bite”. Moreover, the John Deer Tractor color scheme of green and yellow is suggested. But, we have caught Trout using unpainted jig fly hooks. For more details on how to tie a John Deere, see the video below. Also, check out the past trip where we first fished the John Deere at How We Fished the John Deere… The Simple Fishing Fly Pattern!

Did you make it to Blue River opener?
I guess those that said they were not going for just 3 fish actually stayed home. The parking lot at Hughes Crossing was pretty light on cars.
Managed to catch 4 channel cats - leftovers from the summer stocking I'm guessing. Didn't catch any trout..
