This is actually a pretty good read. I got board a few months ago and read the entire thread. Makes me wish I invented snake oil and like I said in my earlier thread I don't use anything and have never had a fuel issue in over 30 years of owning boats.

Reviews? Good? Bad? Thanks for feedback I used to believe these additives didn't do anything to help, but a few years ago I had some personal experience with Startron that convinced me it really works. It all started with using Ethanol fuel in my yard equipment...gas edger and weed eater/trimmer. My trimmer was hard to start and once it was running, it would die unless you kept it revved up. Also, every year the primer bulb would be brittle and crack. I took the trimmer to my local repair shop and two days later picked it up. At the counter, the lady told me their mechanic swears by Startron for the gas yard equipment. He said it would prevent the Ethanol from drying out the gaskets and primer bulb....right....I thought! I bought a bottle and used per instructions and I never had another issue for many years. In my case, I "know" for a fact that Startron isn't snake oil. For the others, no experience, but I hear good things about Stabil360.

Buy a gallon of kerosene for less then a bottle of Startron and it will last you a lifetime, or just use non ethanol fuel in it.

I use SeaFoam during the winter months...during the summer I fish at least 1 day every week.
I have seen a boat motor torn down with carbon all over it...put back together and ran Seafoam through it for an entire tank of gas. Pulled it apart and it was impressive how much it was cleaned up.

But are you Running no additive in these newer engines? Optimax? 2019 Merc 150 4s Yes, I run Seafoam during winter months as it sits longer without use. I also put in Sta-Bil Marine Dec...as my boat hits the water maybe 2-3 through Feb. I use it to keep the gas stable as well as keeping the carbon from etching at startup after a long period of resting.

Interesting. So you’re saying you don’t use something like Bio-Bor, or star-tron or Sta-bil? I use zero additives. I have never had anyone be able to explain how any additives actually work. Read the ingredients then explain how that helps preserve the fuel. I use Sta-bil for the same reason's Hop mentioned. sometimes my boat can sit for a few before I get back in it. other than that, I've never used any other product...….. But what exactly do you think sta bil does? Read the ingredients and explain how it stabilizes fuel or helps at all. The main active ingredient in most additives is alcohol or kerosene. There was a guy on YouTube that tested the Lucas additive. It ended up doing nothing. I can’t see the others being any different.

But what exactly do you think sta bil does? Read the ingredients and explain how it stabilizes fuel or helps at all. The main active ingredient in most additives is alcohol or kerosene. Fuel stabilizer works to stop this oxidation and chemical breakdown from happening. By pouring it into your tank and running the engine for a few minutes to distribute it through the system, it functions partly as an antioxidant and partly by absorbing water before your fuel can do the same. The chemicals in stabilizer do their best to slow down the negative effects of long-term gasoline storage. It’s important to remember that this product can’t work miracles. If you’re storing a vehicle for more than a few years, you may want to investigate how you can keep fresh fuel moving through the lines (typically by regularly running through a tank on a specific schedule). For seasonal storage, however, it’s an excellent tool to have at your disposal. You can’t turn “bad” fuel into “good” fuel by adding fuel stabilizer, but you can keep gasoline relatively fresh over a long period of time by introducing it at the beginning of storage. https://knowhow.napaonline.com/fuel-stabilizer-work/

Ring free if using it often, marine stabil if it's going to sit up. We fog down our older carb motors with seafoam if sitting up for the winter. They literally crank right up 6-8 months later. Of course ethanol free gas when possible

Hop, that is just an advertisement. I know what that manufacturers of the products say they do. I want some one to explain how the ingredients in these products stop gas from going bad.

Fuel doesn't stay in my boat long enough to use a stabilizer. LOL
