Hey guys
Fished Lake Bastrop for the first time since beginning of July today. No real expectations, just wanted to get the boat in the water. Did surprisingly well landing 10 fish for the day. Nothing bigger than 2 lbs unfortunately. Stayed on the water from 9am-noon (bite really tapered off as it got warmer as expected).
Most fish were caught with wacky worms in less than a foot of water. Had some success on a C-rig in ~15 ft as well. There were fish schooling around the dam but I was not able to get on them fast enough when they came up.
Separately, seeking advice for Canyon Lake from anyone with experience there. I will be there the weekend of 9/10 and really not sure how to fish the lake this time of year. Have had some success near the dam fishing small/largemouth in the spring with finesse baits, but not sure if that’s the best bet this time of year. Any guidance would be appreciated!

-Husky Sounds pretty typical for Bastrop in August. Bastrop is a numbers lake, not a monster bass lake. I fish Bastrop frequently and the biggest fish I have caught was a little over 6 pounds about 10 years ago. You can drive yourself crazy chasing schooling bass, so don't. Schooling bass are always "over there" just out of reach. If they are schooling well, just sit in one spot and let them come to you.

They were schooling well yesterday… until a guy idled right up to the school 20 yards from my boat. No problem sharing water, just know what you are doing. My 6 yo did manage to catch his biggest bass. Close to 3lbs but 20”.
