I had covid the week before Christmas 2020. The whole sickness ordeal was like a really bad head cold and the taste and smell issues. I lost all taste and smell for over 3 months then it gradually started coming back little by little. Then around April it seemed I was nearing a full recovery and then all of a sudden my sense of taste and smell started to change. Certain foods became disgusting like my favorite things, peanuts, peanut butter, most all meats, steak, chops, chicken and certain spices that I've still to this day been unable to figure out. This part is gross .... everyone knows what it smells like when you take a #2 right? Well that smell changed as well and it smells just like what the foods I described tasted like. I call it the "Covid Taste". Anytime I make a nasty look when tasting food, my wife will say "what's wrong?" and I will say "it's got that covid taste!"

So 8 months later and with all of my research, it was suggested that I start taking Ginko Biloba. After taking it for a few weeks now, It seems my sense of taste is getting better but still far from 100%.

People who have viral infections can loose their sense of smell. The standard treatment is with glucocorticoid drugs such as prednisone. This new study included 71 patients diagnosed with post-viral olfactory loss that had lost their sense of smell but had no current evidence of sinus inflammation. All participants were treated with prednisolone for 2 weeks. Forty-three participants also received 80 milligrams of the herb Ginkgo biloba three times per day for four weeks. The subjects received two olfactory function tests at the beginning of the study and at the end of the four week treatment period to test their sense of smell. The herb Ginkgo biloba improved the ability of glucocorticoid treatment to restore the sense of smell following upper respiratory viral infection. The report is published in the October, 2009 issue of the American Medical Association Journal Archives of Otolaryngology--Head and Neck Surgery . Commentary by Jerry Hickey, R.Ph. In my experience the combination of ALCAR with ALA is a far better choice for restoring the sense of smell and also the sense of taste and this supplement can safely be combined with other treatments.

Keep in mind that you can lose taste and smell temporarily from other upper respiratory infections.

Family member had Covid last year; two weeks of changes to taste and smell acuity.

I never lost any sense of smell or taste...all I had was runny nose and chest congestion....my doctor prescribed arithmycin antibiotics and prednisone and I think that prednisone actually increased my appetite...fortunately i had been vaccinated back in feb or i think my case would have been much more severe....my buddy caught it same time (we were on same trip) and his experience was similar to mine...

My nephew got his sense of smell back in about 3 weeks, sense of taste in about 5 weeks, but neither are like they once were.

My brother-in-law says all food smells like sewage...his was gone about 3 months, I think.

My friend's 16 year old daughter got Covid in March and she still can't smell or taste.

One of the guys I work with was out for 2 weeks with Covid. Just started back today. Said his taste is off and on at the moment. And NO he was not vaccinated...and he is in the over 60 crowd. He got off easy compared to what some go thru that's for sure.

Every time I get the flu I lose taste and smell. I eat hotdogs and bologna. I will not cook good food so the wife has to tend the lady smokeless bbq grill in the kitchen
