Help. I purchased my first fish finder a Garmin Echomap six weeks ago and when I have it under the sun for some time the screen gets hot and it turns off by itself after an hour or so of use. I usually wait 10-15 minutes and I turn it back on but it will do it again. I wonder if this is normal under our Texas sun and if I should use some type of shade over it to keep it working. I should mention that early in the morning or late in the afternoon it woks fine for hours also I installed a voltage meter and I have a steady 12.3-12.7V so voltage is not the issue. Do you think I got a faulty unit? Thanks in advance.

I don't think that it is faulty. If mine gets too hot it also will shut off.

I would check with Garmin. I fish with mine all day and they never turn off especially my front unit that I run Livescope. I do usually put the console unit in sleep mode but there are times especially if I have a partner that both of the Echomap Ultra 122's are constantly on.
