I tried searching this subject but came up with nada. I know some people on this forum use an air fryer to cook fish. I just bought one to try but I'm not sure if I can use my traditional Corn meal coating. Any help or guidance on producing what seems like fried fish using an fryer would be appreciated.

It seems for a lot of things it cooks better in the air fryer when it’s frozen I have considered trying to fry some fish not quite all the way crispy and freeze them and put them back in there later Somethings turn out very excellent and it’s much healthier but I have not perfected the fish yet but I’ve only tried a few times

Gave up fried anything couple years ago, bypass surgery.Anyway since then we live a low carb lifestyle that includes lots of fish. Our recipe is really very simple and comes out damn good in my opinion.............dredge a filet through an egg bath, hold filet up and let excess drip off, then run filet through almond meal, salt, pepper and I throw in a little cayenne(no reason corn meal couldn't be substituted I suppose).Spray both sides with olive oil and drop in fryer basket, air fry at 450f for 30-35 minutes(this is for larger filets, blues, hybrids, stripers. For smaller whites and crappie cut time back to 20-25 minutes). All air fryers are different so you may have to adjust temp and time accordingly. It took us about 6 tries to get this right..........does it taste exactly like fried? No but its as close as we have found and I like it....ALOT!!! Just add tartar sauce and you're in business

The egg bath is a must. Not much flavor if you only use flour/corn meal. I used a 50/50 mixture of corn meal and flour. Salt and pepper the mixture and add spices to your liking. The egg wash is the kicker. My only complaint is I can only fry 3-4 filets at a time and takes about 20 minutes. Remember to brush oil on the fryer basket or your fish will be stuck to the metal.
You ain’t gonna catch any sittin’ on the couch.

We bought a bigger air fryer (Power XL,the size of a standard microwave that air fries and grills at the same time if you wish)for that very reason. We do grill some filets occasionally for fish tacos, hybrid filets work perfect for this.Anyway a large air fryer is a solid investment in my opinion.

Thanks for the replies and advice. I tried some catfish yesterday using the recipe in the book that came with my fryer. I wasn't impressed but then again I'm not catfish fan anyway. I'm trying to quit frying things, I have three Fry-daddies and two Cajun cooker fryers. I'll do a little more experimenting before giving up but I can say this air fryer makes the best tator tots I've ever eaten.

Louisana FIsh Fry brand makes a decent air fryer breading with a bit of Cajun kick to it. I bought it on Amazon but I think it’s in the local grocery stores too.
Fishin' to stock Lake Crisco.
