Falcon Lowrider Composite 7' Cranker - Good value crankbait rod.
I recently bought this rod. It’s worked great for square bills so far.

Falcon Lowrider Composite 7' Cranker - Good value crankbait rod.
I recently bought this rod. It’s worked great for square bills so far. I have a bunch of the Cara version that I really like. However, the Cara T7 is 2x the cost and they don't even offer it in the new Cara line up. I decided to give the Lowrider a try to see if it would be an option going forward. It's very similar in action. The handle is a a little bit thicker and shorter. But you wouldn't notice unless comparing side by side.

I love my Powell 705 CB, it’s a medium heavy moderate fast action. Great rods for a square bill. I have 3 of the Powell Max 3D cranking rods.

You can't go wrong with the Dobyns 705cb. I said earlier I have the 704 only because I mostly throw the 1.5's and the lighter action of the 704 will help me get the most action/depth.(plus 12lb liine) It will handle 2.5's just fine but anything bigger and it will start to get overwhelmed. That's where the 705 should work better. For what it's worth, I flip a squarebill similar to a spinnerbait so I'm getting it around a bunch of brush and dock pilings. I've caught 5-6lbr's from this stuff with the 704 but it wasn't easy. There are times where I wish I had the backbone of the 705. One more thing-I fish with the Champion XP and have not fished with the Fury series. I think Dobyns "actions" vary from series to series.

If you can find a Powell TW special squarebill rod you won’t be disappointed. That was a special Powel Tackle Warehouse squarebill rod. I also use a Megabass Flat Side special for small cranks and top water baits. There are a lot of rods that work well for the square bill cranks. Just find what you like.

As with any type of lure, whatever rod I can cast it accurately with and have good feel of the lure on the retrieve.
