I guess y'all have seen these MUL-T-BARS that you mount your rod holders on. They look awesome to me and I'd love to have a pair. As nice as they look, they are a bit spendy. $399 a pair and that's without rod holders. I took a page out of Fishin n stuff's book and made a DIY set. The cost was about $100 bucks but you will need a 1/2 x 13 drill and tap set.
I used 3/4" black pipe and I'm going to plastidip em to protect from rusting.
Tell what you guys think...

If they work for you, that’s what matters and those look as though they will treat you very well. I’ve done DIY rod holders, not much different than those really, and they do work. They worked for a long time actually. I’ll also admit: I have b-ready’ s and Multibars now.
Looks great Tim! Spray those babies down with slime green paint and theyll be Purdy!! I’ve been kicking around the idea of mul t bars the last year but I throw my net off the back and I use that back transducer to tell me exactly where to drop. If I install mul t bars then I need to add a transducer and another graph for the front of the boat to get big baits efficiently. I like my Driftmaster removable T bars but they have some movement in them when fishing the rollers and they aren’t made that tough. I wish those mul t bars had a quick release lever so I could rotate them out of the way when cast netting off the back. Man this Bluecatn has gotten expensive as all get out!!

I like it. I made one from an old seat pedestal and a board I had laying around. It works great - even added LED's on the back with the switch on the mount. Someday I'll get the mulTbar and smackdown rod holders - maybe on my next boat.

I just messaged the Mul T Bar guy with my concern and we’ll see if he has come up with a solution. Don’t want to use a tire iron or impact wrench like I’ve seen in the videos due to Action Jaxon’s enthusiasm for all tools!

How did you lock the pedestal from spinning?Once I figure this out I'm all in on this rig
I think your mounts will work great. I am like you, always looking for a way to save some and still get what I need.
Here is a picture of the mount I made from a piece of aluminum angle that was in the scrap pile at a friends shop. Bought a couple of split collars that fit the ski rope bar on the back of the boat, and have my fishing rod holder and ski bar is still fully functional.

I've tried wood, aluminum angle, unitstrut you name it. I always found them not to be rigid enough. Especially when dragging. This set is pretty stout. I am going to prime them and then give em a nice coat of slime green! I got two new sets of Parks Planer Boards today. I'm gonna pull Sandy Too out of the water next weekend. She needs an oil change and a good power wash. I also have a set of green LEDs to mount under the rod holders to light them up. Gonna move the white light LEDS I have on the back to the from for docking lights. She's gonna be sexy when I get done!

Exact same question from myself as well.
I have a seat position I don't use and would be a perfect set up for me.
