Slewfoot, I like they way you think, keep them in the lake till they are ready.... I would do this but I am no where near as good as you so I have to keep some in the freezer for those days that I get skunked.

Thanks for y'all's replies, I feel better about how to keep them fresh and I guess I need to get another cooler.

My trips are only about 4 hours each , I have a big livewell on my bluewave, I rigged a Pro air dual air pump. Rarely have a fish die with this setup.
If I were fishing longer , I would ice them as I caught them.
