I picked one up a couple months ago when the handle on my Ultrex finally broke after years of use. This handle has broke off at the cable twice already in less than 60 days. Maybe I'm not cinching the allen screws down enough, but it hasn't held up well so far. Maybe I need to get the spiked allen screws for it. Anyone had this issue?

I had the handle break off and it made me fall back onto the windshield, which then broke. Hurt like hell, but I think they fixed the issue with them breaking. Haven’t read about the issue you’re referring to though.

yeah, the cable slips out of the nut. Handle is in your hand and cable laying on ground. I just have to baby this thing I guess.

Can’t remember how mine was, but isn’t there a washer under the nut and between the handle? I think mine had one, but it has been 2 years since then.

I had this happen and damn near fell out of the boat. Wrenched my back good. I took the nut off of the handle threaded the cable through the handle and tied a overhand knot in the cable. Worked like a charm never had another issue.

My original cable rusted out a long time ago. Replaced it with a white stainless steel cable from Tackle Warehouse and never had another issue.

Mine has done this several times...
Additionally, the coating wore off down where it comes out of the trollingmotor mount and wore a groove into the aluminum.. ( fortrex)

Yep. Mine broke for the 3rd time this morning. Remembered what you said and tied it in a knot and sunk it into the handle. THANKS!

Glad it worked out for you. I’ve never had another issue

I bought a G-Force handle for my last boat. It continually broke. I took the handle off a tied it to my lawn mower. I am happy with my Ultrex handle and cable. About once a year it gets an inch shorter. But it only takes my cutters on my split ring pliers and a tiny screw driver from my reel/line bag and it’s good to go.

Yeah, it's a flawed design, but I think the knot will cure it.

ends any chance of it pulling out, go thru, double back, pull tight and crimp.
