I live in Harlingen and the best place to go for tackle is Hook line and Sinker. These guys have a lot of knowledge and will give you great tips. If you are looking for reds, go to Arroyo City and take your boat out to what's called the three islands (not far from the boat ramp) to get there facing the boat ramp in the park from the parking lot, just go to your right. You should see the three islands comming up as you go towards open water. Use live bait and something like a silver spoon. I have caught a 42, 38, 27, 24, and a 20 in. reds there. You can get live bait at Sanchez bait stand or Arroyo City bait stand.

Stiper, if u go down the ship channel all the way to about marker 67 u start to see a lot of boats to your Lt hand side these guys are fishing for red, specs.all u need is a small trible hook & live shrimp on a 20lb leader about 10" with a small weight at the beging of ur fishing line. ancher ur boat next to grass about 5' from the edge all u do is though to the edge of the grass the fish are moving along the side of the drop off of the channel looking up at the grass line and as soon as the bait clears the grass the fish will bite.all this happens at first light if u do it right the sun will be rising up from behind u.if u look at the grass edge u should see the fish schooling up and down the channel and u don't need a tunnel boat to get to these places the channel is deep and defined with markers the only thing u need is a gas tank.follow the boats they all ways know. I'll be fishing down their the morings of July 31,Aug 1,2, this is the ezest way I know I'll post my pic's of my catch when I get back my gramer realy not to bueno sorry.
